You do realize this entire thing has been based on a Russian Collusion Conspiracy Theory, right? Unless you have info one way or the other that the rest of the class doesn't, you're a theorist just like the rest. You just choose your affirmations from a different buffet.

What does pedogate have to do with the Trump investigation? Pedogate isn't about politics except that some of the elite class (which includes some politicians) are theorized to be involved. The (D) or (R) next to their name is inconsequential and doesn't seem to have any connection.

If the concern is destruction of evidence, now that they have it all, I wouldn't be opposed to just setting up a secure room/database where Cohen's attorneys can review the material and log anything they want to hold back so the government can challenge any privilege claim.

The "taint team" would be a group of DOJ attorneys sealed off from the DOJ attorneys investigating/prosecuting the case against Cohen. They would review the seized materials to determine what's privileged and what's not privileged. Presumably, Cohen would have the ability to challenge their determinations before a judge prior to the materials being made available to the attorneys investigating/prosecuting the case.

Should Clinton be treated more favorably than Trump? Trump's big sin is that he isn't a DC insider. That he's a blowhard who talks too much only rubs it in.

That would be an "independent" review group working for the same boss as all the rest, right? You know when you get the the top of the federal level - DOJ, FBI, etc you are out of the the "police" who police the process. Remember the phrase "who polices the police?"

I don't know exactly how it works (I'm not a criminal attorney), but I would imagine Cohen's attorneys would be given an opportunity to challenge the production of any documents that they felt were privileged prior to their production to the DOJ attorneys investigating/prosecuting Cohen. The judge would then have an in camera review of the documents to make a final determination on whether they're privileged or not. What's unfair about that?

Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's personal attorney, is "under criminal investigation," the Justice Department said Friday.

In response to Cohen's motion to restrain the evidence collected in Monday's raids of his home and office, the US attorney in New York asserted the raids were authorized by a federal judge to seek evidence of conduct "for which Cohen is under criminal investigation."
The filing redacts what Cohen is under investigation for.


Just confirmation of what we already knew....

Oh, I don't know, how about emptying out a house because you are looking for a gun and discover knives. "Well since we don't have a body, or it was incinerated, or ground into fertilizer, then we could just assume he used a knife rather than a gun."

Unrightful search and seizure comes to mind; I don't think harm can be undone by whether parts of the play are overturned after official review. The cat's out of the bag, and it taints everything that comes after.

I just don't see members of a team beholden to the same boss being exactly impartial - little things like job security, advancement, promotions, the dreaded lateral to DOJ Siberia have to be sitting right there at the forefront of every decision.

But again, Cohen would presumably have the right to challenge before a judge any determinations made by the taint team prior to them handing those materials over to the investigators/prosecutors.

The taint team wouldn't be beholden to the same boss.

This warrant application was reviewed by several people who owe their positions to Trump and they found enough probable cause to issue the warrants.

Sorry, I did understand your comment - that a subpoena gives a heads up, and I probably didn't answer well. If you learn lessons one time, and then the next person is treated differently, it smacks in a way of favoritism when the first person walked away without punishment.

That's all part of the reason that I don't believe the FBI and DOJ have the ability to act without favor. They have demonstrated the inability to do so up to this point.

Perhaps they may "owe" positions to Trump, but once they are in those positions, their allegiance goes to someone else unless the position is actually on Trump's staff. If you've ever worked in a corporate setting, you'd know all about wandering allegiances.
