I try to avoid specifics from the scrimmage and other non-mediated practice times, but I don’t quite get the Gray praise. He didn’t have a bad day during the scrimmage, and the fact he was in there a lot prices the staff thinks highly of him, but he got burned more than once.

Honestly, not a single service has talked about our best pass defender yet... Big numba 2. Shy had 2 PBU during the scrimmage where he collapsed the pocket and then deflected the pass with perfect timing.

Nope. Being serious.

You can not take my joy away from me. Regular season plus bowl game I think we have 8 wins total.

Elite recruiters who display progress on the field, elite resources at Tennessee, plus elite recruits seeing chance for virtual immediate playing time = very good class coming up.

We will see how much joy you have when we win 5 games and have a class outside the top 10..I bet you will be turning cartwheels and shoutin hallelujah I'm sure..

ok, as scenarios go, i think you're on to a good one. and i'm for it.

i don't know that there's a reason you should "expect" it to work out that way, at the moment anyway. i mean what if they win 6 or 7 and sign a top 10 or 12 class? is that necessarily 'bad'?

the season is tricky for all the obvious reasons. the recruiting...long way to go til December and next february, and i do think what some of these kids see in the fall will help/hurt our chances in some cases.

everyone of these guys that visits with this staff says they see the changes, know they're going to turn it around blah, blah, blah....but not enough have been willing to pull the trigger and be part of THE REASON they actually do it.

so, i think it's important to show progress, show what you're about, show what you might be capable of, come this fall. go to a bowl. don't get flat embarrassed again, and then go close the 2019 class strong.

i think 2020 has a shot at being really big, regardless, on the recruiting front.

Bingo! Yahtzee! Uno!

I’m so excited to see what Shy can do after being able to participate in a full offseason. He has so much potential and I would love to see him make the most of the opportunity.

Not everyone can throw one like W.

Still probably the best first pitch ever considering the circumstances combined with the actual pitch. Chills

Oh Dubya. What a winner

OK, I get it. Everyone thought it was stupid. I don't post a ton on here, but I think most of the regulars recognize me. I think my posts are reasonable, I don't try to stir up a bunch of crap. And, it's a legitimate thought I've had when keeping up with signing day, spring baw, and other offseason activities. :mf_surrender:

It’s honestly caught my eye too but haven’t put much thought in it. He does wear white an awful lot but maybe he prefers white

Funny how those who expect to win so often do, while those who expect to lose are the ones who complain the most when they end up doing what they expected to do.

Was Loyola unreasonable when they expected to beat Miami... Tennessee... Nevada... Kansas St? When you have talent, good coaches and strong fan support, expecting to win isn't unreasonable. It's exactly what we should be doing.

That is a gross misrepresentation of our situation. I do not expect to win more than 5 games this year, but I do not expect it to remain that way in 2019. I expect improvement and restoration of the UT football program to its rightful and historical place among the elite of the SEC. I do not expect that to happen this year. Don't pull that loser mentality crap on me.

How in the heck do you come to this conclusion with this OL? The offense is going to suck, and good coaches or not the Defense has to many talent holes to be better than soundly mediocre..you are usually more perceptive than this. We could be anywhere from 5-7 to 7-5. The only way I really start losing it on Pruitt is if we go 4-8 again.

A bowl game ultimatum is silly. Especially when you know there will be significant injuries, there always are.

I didn’t arbitrarily decide our whole team sucks just because my feelings got hurt when it turned out Butch was in over his head.

Our roster has some holes, for sure. But it’s good enough for good leadership to get it to a bowl.

I get the pessimism about injuries as well and am inclined to think we probably won’t have good luck with them since we haven’t in a while. But it’s not a foregone conclusion that we’ll have significant injuries.

Who are the 10 new board appointees? Two of them are Kara Lawson and Brad Lampley.

Announced yesterday, pending approval:
  • John Compton, former CEO of Pilot Flying J travel centers and current partner with Clayton, Dubilier and Rice
  • Kara Lawson, former Lady Vol and current basketball television analyst for ESPN and the Washington Wizards
  • Donnie Smith, former President and Chief Executive Officer of Tyson Foods
  • Sharon Pryse, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of The Trust Company
  • Kim White, President and Chief Executive Officer of River City Company
  • Bill Rhodes, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of AutoZone
  • Melvin Malone, former Special Tennessee Supreme Court Justice and current practice group leader with Butler Snow LLP
  • Bill Evans, former Director and Chief Executive Officer of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
  • Raja Jubran, Chief Executive Officer of Denark Construction
  • Brad Lampley, former Tennessee Volunteers football player and current partner in charge of the Nashville office of Adams and Reese, LLP
I'd call that stacking the deck.

I wonder how many are hip deep in Haslems pockets? We know Jubran and the former Pilot exec obviously are...how about the others?

Couple of random observations on Pruitt:

1. Can we all start spelling the word as the man pronounces it: footbaw

2. I haven't watched all of his media sessions, and haven't viewed the galleries from every practice, but is anyone else a little peeved that he doesn't wear orange very much (if at all)? Any time I've seen him in video or picture, it's been a white/off white/grey shirt with orange logos. It makes me think he's having a hard time embracing our orange.

I thought the same thing then just stopped caring thinking I was being paranoid ab the bammer connection

Iirc, Lane Kiffin straight up said he didn't really like to wear orange so Im not sure why its all that surprising that Pruitt may not really feel it either.

So no Charlie Anderson? Everyone of these going to be a puppet? Another question would be, besides Lampley and Lawson, what business do these people have in making decisions for this university when they know nothing about this university? You would think you'd want folks who know the territory.

I get the impression you take satisfaction in Tennessee being down.

Hate to break it to you, but it’s a new era in Vols football. We’re not back yet, but we’re headed in the right direction.

Willing to place a friendly wager we’re closer to 8 wins than your 5.

Just calling it like I see it.

Last off-season you were on these boards jumping down the throat of anybody saying Butch was in over his head. You’ve been spending the last few months whining about how our whole team sucks and has no talent.

Go ahead and pretend those two things are completely unrelated if you want, though.

Without getting specific, a majority of the new Big Board appointees share the political views and are sympathetic to the business interests of Bill Haslam and Pilot Flying J. He kept Jubran, Pryse, Evans and Lampley-- not a surprise. Nor is it surprising to see that the trustees who vocally opposed his interests are gone. He threw a few bones, but overall, he did what politicians do-- make sure they have the votes.
