Nope. Being serious.

You can not take my joy away from me. Regular season plus bowl game I think we have 8 wins total.

Elite recruiters who display progress on the field, elite resources at Tennessee, plus elite recruits seeing chance for virtual immediate playing time = very good class coming up.

ok, as scenarios go, i think you're on to a good one. and i'm for it.

i don't know that there's a reason you should "expect" it to work out that way, at the moment anyway. i mean what if they win 6 or 7 and sign a top 10 or 12 class? is that necessarily 'bad'?

the season is tricky for all the obvious reasons. the recruiting...long way to go til December and next february, and i do think what some of these kids see in the fall will help/hurt our chances in some cases.

everyone of these guys that visits with this staff says they see the changes, know they're going to turn it around blah, blah, blah....but not enough have been willing to pull the trigger and be part of THE REASON they actually do it.

so, i think it's important to show progress, show what you're about, show what you might be capable of, come this fall. go to a bowl. don't get flat embarrassed again, and then go close the 2019 class strong.

i think 2020 has a shot at being really big, regardless, on the recruiting front.

Who are some guys you think from inherited roster become solid pieces this season with change in staff?

My top 3 are Shamburger, jordan Murphy and Ryan Johnson. Vq seems to think Buchanon Is taking the step which is very nice to hear.

i didn't use chandler because seems obvious

Ignont
Kongbo
Phillips

I hope Byrd can find a home and stick too

There are excuses and there are valid reasons. A reasonable person knows the difference. It is unreasonable to expect many wins this year. It is going to take longer than one off season to fix the worst team in UT history...I don't care if you have a coaching staff cloned from the DNA of The General, Saban, Belichek, Bryant, Lombardi and Walsh.

Funny how those who expect to win so often do, while those who expect to lose are the ones who complain the most when they end up doing what they expected to do.

Was Loyola unreasonable when they expected to beat Miami... Tennessee... Nevada... Kansas St? When you have talent, good coaches and strong fan support, expecting to win isn't unreasonable. It's exactly what we should be doing.

We know the HC expects to win.

i don't think Loyola went in to the tourney expecting to make it to the elite 8. i doubt seriously anyone fan, player, coach or otherwise was saying "i expect the elite 8 or else".

i think they probably expected to win each game they played. and that's an entirely different deal.

and i would imagine that CJP and this team will tell you they expect to win each game they play.

as fans, you can have 'expectations', but really what you're talking about most of the time is a standard that exists about the type of program we are/should be.

that doesn't mean you meet it every game/season.

and there are reasons that happens. some more valid than others, some more reasonable than others.

so you can have 'expectations' for a season or game or whatever, based on a set of circumstances or situation, while still observing what the standard is............and those expectations can change, sometimes during the season.....i mean, did anyone still 'expect' to win the east after we lost our 3rd or 4th SEC game??

conversely, after we beat UGA in 16, most certainly expected us to win the East after that, regardless of what they 'expected' pre season.

which is what i think most people do, whether they know the difference or not.

And that's my point. They expected to win. And they kept winning.

In any locker room and in any fanbase, there are those that raise expectations... those that lower them... and those that accept whatever they get. Every category is represented on this board.

Couple of random observations on Pruitt:

1. Can we all start spelling the word as the man pronounces it: footbaw

2. I haven't watched all of his media sessions, and haven't viewed the galleries from every practice, but is anyone else a little peeved that he doesn't wear orange very much (if at all)? Any time I've seen him in video or picture, it's been a white/off white/grey shirt with orange logos. It makes me think he's having a hard time embracing our orange.

I think some people are just like that with colors. Some like to wear grey/black /white and don't like looking like a pumpkin.

We don't think anything of it cause it's in our DNA.

so what happens if they lose in the 1st round? they didn't meet the "expectation", so what happens now?

i still think that word "expectation" gets used around here so frequently, people really get bogged down by it.

as competitors, yes, they should all expect to win everytime they take the field, court etc.....i don't think anyone's saying they shouldn't. something would definitely be wrong if they didn't.

but if i'm placing expectations on someone/something, it's because i have reason to believe i should expect a certain result, and if that result is not achieved, then i've been "let down".

you have all the requisite tools/resources/manpower etc....necessary to achieve "x", then go achieve it. in my mind there's really not a reason you shouldn't based on that.

now, take something out of that equation, and my expectation may get lowered, while understanding that gap needs to be filled to meet the 'standard' going forward....

i don't look at the 2018 Vols and think all the gaps are filled. i do look down the road and see a group of coaches and administrators trying to fill them, and i feel pretty good about that.

I’ve seen lots of pictures of him in orange pullovers, etc?

I've probably just missed them, then. It seems like any time I watch a video or picture (i.e. throwing out the first pitch at the baseball game yesterday), he's in a non-orange shirt.

Oh yeah...one other thing: his right eyebrow still freaks me out.

In any locker room and in any fanbase, there are those that raise expectations... those that lower them... and those that accept whatever they get. Every category is represented on this board.

realistically, there's probably 5-7 teams a year that can reasonably expect to win or compete for the national title. only one can. maybe 3-4 from each conf can expect to win or compete for the conf title, only 1 can.

it's a slippery slope to me when i hear "i expect....." cause it's almost like putting up an ultimatum in my mind. i just set an expectation, and on the backside of that, what happens if it is not met?? i mean, you're backing yourself in to a corner, with no recourse whatsoever. what can you do, really, if YOUR expectation is not met as a fan? in that regard, don't we all have to accept the result???

you gonna stop watching? not be a fan? give up your season tickets?

i've 'lowered my expectation' for 2018, legitimately based on the circumstances presented. that doesn't now mean that the standard of being a championship contending program in the SEC goes away.

rather, i look at what this new administration and coaching staff are doing to get there, and that's about all you can do as a fan.

Uh oh Chuckie.

Yeah, I knew my post had the potential for drawing some ire!

I guess I should have authored a post venturing a guess on how many wins I expect, even though almost every variable that will impact whether we win or lose every game could change between now and when the games are played!
