heard some really good news with Trey Smith. As of right now it's looking like he should be medically eligible to play come fall. There has been discussion on taking a redshirt, but it's looking like tests have come back that haven't eliminated the issue but are less severe than feared. Still some scary stuff when you are dealing with blood clots, but as it stands now, the rock of our offensive line should be on the field this fall.

This is some awesome news. Thanks for sharing.

As I scan through all the post cause I haven't been able to get in here and then I see that I haven't missed a thing. But I have missed the fun we have in here. Having to be out of town a lot for the next 6 months. Can't wait to see how we look at the Orange and White game. So hope to see a big difference in attitude and play.

no doubt in my mind this team will look night and day different

We may not kill it this year on the field, but we will not play timid. And that excites me

After 2015 there was so much hope and promise with a talented team that could have and perhaps should have been in at least the SEC championship game if not further. Hard to believe where we are now after that season. Stinks that we’re having to wait until at least 2019 to see enough improvement to be competitive with the top teams in the league thanks to Butch.

How were you "kinda" there? Were you standing half-in and half-out at the front door? Was part of you simultaneously existing in a different locale? Were you at a different house party that momentarily intersected with this celebrity-filled house party?

We (band) was at house in the Hollywood hills. We were invited. Didn't know who would be there. Thought we were just meeting a guy to talk to about putting us on a spotify playlist.

man you never know, new blood in the staff basically means a brand new environment and start for a lot of kids. I think we'll have some kids who haven't played to their peak start to step it up this year and surprise some folks. I'm looking at you Dillon Bates, Kyle Phillips, D Taylor, etc.

I'm excited.

Yeah I was thinking about that yesterday. I like our starting 22. We don’t have depth, but our starters can be good players. Even if our OL is Smith, Richmond, Locklear, Johnson, and Tatum or Carvin (depending on where Smith plays), that’s not bad. Then, I don’t think we can understate the massive coaching upgrades at multiple positions such as linebacker, DB, OL, and receiver. Some of those upgrades were over guys that shouldn’t have sniffed coaching at this level like Beard. How do you even compare Johnson to Beard and Helton to Canales? Not to mention we actually have a S&C coach, and an elite one at that by all accounts. But how much can they get out of them in a year? We’ll see. And, Pruitt is a first year coach.

We don’t have Bama quality talent and depth for sure, but at least our depth is largely made up of scholarship players that have been on campus more than year in most spots (except maybe OL). That’s a far cry from where Butch started. Our roster is not at the elite championship level we all want it, but I’m going to guess it’s better than many (if not most) in college football. It’s just tough that we play in a conference loaded with elite rosters.

The 24/7 podcast is a lot of "I'm not whining about the lack of access, but the next few minutes are going to be whining about a lack of access, and then we're going to talk about the dancing fundraiser Wes Rucker is doing, and then we're going to make far-reaching generalizations about the first 8 minutes of practice we're allowed to see, while we say we're not whining about not getting to see the whole practice, but really we're whining about not getting to see more than the first 8 minutes of practice."

I haven’t listened to the newest one yet, but in the last one they did at least say something along the lines of that they get why Pruitt is taking this approach and he’s probably right for it.

We’ll see how long that lasts though. I think most (not all, of course) of the media are smart enough to realize that the football team winning means more people excited and thus more views/clicks/listens for them regardless of how much of practice they get to see and who they get to interview. So if Pruitt shows promise, I can see them stomaching the lack of access just fine. If 2018 goes rough, I’m not sure how long they’ll put up with it though.

I agree. I believe we are going to see a much more aggressive team and I truly expect to see the talent to come to the surface in several of our players that has been wasted the last couple of years. Like you say, we don't have the depth or talent of the top tier teams but I wouldn't be surprised to see us pull off an upset or two this season.

Random thought. This team has some similarities to the 2009 team. Both with excellent coaching staffs (at least on paper), both with some talent but not without a couple holes, and both in first years of a new coach.

Your take: 2009 team or 2018 team?

2018

I’m fairly certain the 2011 team would be making some fake national championship rings since they went undefeated in the regular season but were on a multi-year bowl ban. The 2018 staff is full of legitness.
