hm. the tyler byrd experiment at corner is over. shamburger at nickel.

i'm not going to go so far as to say WTF....but at the same time, i would have bet on shamburger at corner, and i guess i'm just a bit disappointed that we have yet to figure out what Byrd can do on a football field yet.

especially at a position like CB where we need #'s.

i am a little surprised at both of those pieces of info.

Never understood why people were penciling in byrd as a premier corner for the last two years. Also nickel is arguably more important now than ever. We’re gonna be in nickel so much and a lot of offenses are putting their best WRs/TEs in the slot to create a matchup.

Is Byrd going to Safety or back to O?

Because he looked like a premier corner (was almost a 5 star right?) coming out of HS and didn’t have much production at WR.

Edit* and butch had a propensity for not putting his players in the best position.

well there was a lot of chatter about how good Byrd was as a DB....his H.S. coaches talked about it, Byrd talked about it....anyway....it is what it is.

as for the nickel spot, i agree, especially in this defense.

it's not that i'm upset Shamburger is at nickel. it's that we don't have anyone at CB apparently, or at least not enough people.

but at Safety/Nickel....we're fairly deep.

like said, i don't want to go all wtf on this....just frustrating to hear about where we are at DB more than anything else.

I heard he needed to show more personally before the Spring even started. I don’t know if it’s footwork or effort but he may not have put the extra work in to make an easier transition this offseason.

You know they are KICKING TIRES right now? Because they’re seeing how well Shamburger fits at nickel doesn’t mean he’s cemented at that spot. This is the time to see how versatile your roster is. Maybe Pruitt wants to see if there’s a poor man’s Minkah Fitzpatrick on the practice field.

By far the best line of the fall is about it being easier to practice than the workouts for the hurt players. No doubt our OL missed way too much practice time in the past few years and were soft. Love hearing this part is being corrected.

On a similar note I would love to know what Pruitt would say for a player missing practice time to go to prom. Would be hilarious and I bet we don't find out because nobody will have the balls to ask. Love it

i do, and why i said what i said about 'not going all wtf' on this....just discussing it.

regarding the CB position being what it is, or isn't as the case may be, and thinking we had shamburger and byrd to kind of take the reigns....i guess that could still be the case when all is said and done...but the 'experiment being over' didn't appear to leave a lot of wiggle room, at least in byrd's case.

and if it's a byrd issue as breaker intimated, then it really is just what it is...and we'll move on.

I take the Byrd “experiment being over” line as he’s not going to play corner and he’s going to stick at safety. I think TOS was more trying to emphasize that we don’t have a lot of bodies at CB, rather than say Byrd is flopping at safety.

My gosh the Trey Smith goes to Prom thing again. There is literally 1 person on the planet who got hung up on a HS senior going to his prom. Good grief.

Dang, Randy Sanders was supposedly put on leave because he hit a player.

Smacked a kid on the helmet to get him to take a knee. What the hell is happening in sports? My high school basketball coach smacked me so hard on the knee in a timeout I think I still have his handprint. Know what happened? I did what he told me. Haha.
