That's fair. I think most people don't trust Jimmy and are projecting that distrust on Bill. Also, no one fully knows what this legislation will do or how things will shake out or what Bill will do after his term is over. He might have his sights set on something higher than the UT Presidency.

LA Vol has said that Bill has stated in the past that he doesn't want to be UT President. I actually think he's been a decent governor, I guess it's just guilt by association. I don't like how Jimmy operates at all.

Grown azz, rich men fighting over the power to influence and make the big shot calls of an athletic department like its their personal plaything instead of hiring the best available in every role and then making sure they get it done. Then add in the female element led by the likes of Donna Thomas. One gigantic cluster for 15 years or so. This type stuff is why there is such a populist movement in this country.

FOCUS is stupid regardless of the people promoting it. UT's recent self-proclaimed mission has been international seeking its Billion+ dollars endowment to play with the big boys. It's BOT should represent numerous diverse interests of many people. If it goes back to it's original purpose as a land grant, then a smaller BOT makes sense. It's nothing but a power play and yes, it has been in the works for years. The timing moved up due to all the fall-out of the UTAD. Bill may be a great UT Prez. But who in their right mind could trust that the other two would stay out of things.

My concern is much broader than any one family. Allowing the governor-- outgoing or incoming-- to appoint the board eliminates the checks and balances needed to keep trustees honest and acting in UT's best interest. Politicians appoint people who share their view and push their agendas. Diversity and opposing POVs are diminished. The bill's minimal requirements won't prevent the governor-- any governor-- from making political appointments that further his/her own objectives or reward his/her flunkies for political favors.

The BOT has been divisive because there have been a few checks and balances in place. We need more; FOCUS gives us none. Don't kid yourself for a second that the General Assembly vetting and approving trustees is in any way a safeguard. They're not invested in this legislation and have already shown they're going to take a neutral stance. Politics is sausagemaking and representatives are going to look the other way while the governor stacks the board to be friendly to his/her political and personal agendas.

I can honestly really appreciate this line of thinking and thank you for clarifying that your concern isn't just with Bill or the Haslam family and their power (real and/or perceived).

He publicly removed his name from consideration in January. He could change his mind, though. They're moving back to Knoxville and have already set up their new home.

If Brown is afraid to go on record predicting a top ten class, that’s not a very good omen for Pruitt’s tenure. If we don’t have Recruiting with this staff, I’m not optimistic on what we else we have.

He can't win...if he stated he all but guaranteed a top 5 or 10 class after a 4-8 season with no experience as a head coach, Brown would get blasted as nothing but a homer.

If he can come in and give solid 4th line minutes then that would be huge. Depends on his acclimation to the smaller ice and the NHL level. He surely has the talent to be a key contributor. Hopefully he can show enough to help us this playoffs but either way the future is bright for him and his role with the Preds.

Who cares. He’s works for a site dedicated to UT athletics, not a newspaper or magazine. I’m not looking for a guarantee. I’m looking for his thoughts on a specific question. Instead, you get the ultimate hedge.

Don't remember who said yesterday this FOCUS thing has been in the works for a long time which it has....

Apparently the BOT part was added recently along with some other stuff.

I don’t understand how that’s not breach of contract. He’s supposed to try and find a comparable job. This isn’t it and it doesn’t appear he’s tried.

Language is pretty broad. He would have to be publicly offered a job and REFUSE it to be in violation. Accepting a minuscule title isn’t.
