Global warming leads to warmer water temps. Large reptiles need the warmer water to be more active. The waters in the Tennessee River system haven't gotten warmer so the only logical explanation from there is an abundance of food and territory.
Another confirmation of your theory comes from the South Carolina lowcountry. Over the years gators have been growing in number and territory there. Obviously migrating up due to ample food sources and extremely rural territory with a lot water access. This past winter was the coldest and extended for a much longer time than in decades. Result - farmers, hunters, fishermen, and SCNR have been finding dead gator carcasses more than has ever been recorded.
