that's not the point. everyone knows what the results are for Bama and TN.

people that run hundred million dollar organizations don't take intern jobs, no matter who they're for.

Well, good thing Butch Jones didn't run a 100 million dollar organization then.

The whole country is making fun of Butch, SEC fans from all over are roasting him on social media, he's a punchline on sports shows-- and UT fans are supposed to defend him? Now that's a joke.

This is a three or four year build, and that's if we have the right guy. No more blind faith, you gotta show me now.

This is where I'm at exactly. My earliest memories as a Vol fan were right around the end of the Majors era. I came of age in the 90s when we were consistently competing for championships and had a player in the Heisman conversation more often than not. Through the past 10 years of losing and multiple coaching debacles I have always believed that we were going to right the ship and start winning again at a high level. Yeah, I had to google him when he was hired, but I thought Dooley would win here because I couldn't imagine Tennessee not winning. I thought Butch would win because winning is what we do. My mindset has finally changed though. I no longer expect success. We have sucked for a decade. I can now easily imagine us sucking for another decade. Even a year or two ago that would have been unthinkable to me. I still had faith that we would pull out of this funk. I want success, very much so, and I'll still be living and breathing it 365 days a year, but I'm to the point now where I'm going to have to see the success to believe it.

so is The University of Tennessee Head Football Coach, the equivalent of being the head "small nashville firm"?

what are we, MTSU? High school head coaches and GA's take intern jobs to get their foot in the door.

SEC head coaches....don't.

He held the title, but an SEC head coach he was not.

I would never defend him. I nothing him.

In the sense that he has dominated a certain field, yes.

either way. pick an analogy and stick with it....

the point still stands...name another SEC head football coach that was fired or quit, and took an intern job?

it's ridiculous. and he deserves whatever he gets by way of crap thrown his direction.

don't disagree. it's more a slap in the face for our program than anything else, and i get that.

i just don't get the notion that "sure, this seems like a cool deal, i'd do it too". meh.

this is what we've had leading our program. a MAC coach that is now getting coffee for real coaches at Alabama.

Fair to agree to disagree. Just Our opinions. I just don’t think i guy like Chryst comes to TN at this point unless he has been told basically “you’re starting”. Especially considering our OC has seen him up close and personal for the last few years. Idc who ends up being The qb. I just hope whoever it is performs.

What are your early thoughts on Pruitt? You been around him much?

It is. I don't want to see anyone defending Butch Jones. He made a mockery of this once proud program and he should take every shot that comes his way, and like it.

More than Kiffin or Dooley before him? I tend to think Kiffin leaving in the middle of the night as what made us a mockery.

I personally dislike Jones more than either of those two. Jones was like a boyfriend who knew is girlfriend was way out of his league, but tried every way in the world to fool her into thinking otherwise.

I still wonder what an above average coach could have done with those 2015 and 2016 rosters. Butch gets credit for assembling those rosters, but only winning 9 games in 2016 years ago is still more of mindf@#$ to me than only winning four this year.

Those two late season losses in 2015 and 2016 really exposed Jones as pedestrian gameday coach, and 2017 really showed how bad of of a coach he was with above average talent (instead of exceptional talent the previous two years).

He's pretty good at hype (which gets old), and mediocre at actual football. I'm baffled by why Saban would even deal with that.

I'm not sure how either of those are not true statements nor how they "defend" him.

If he thinks being ridiculed mercilessly in every medium is "best for his family and himself professionally," then he picked a good strategy-- one that you support. And you can't blame UT for Butch's actions AFTER he was fired. UT is just fulfilling a contractual obligation by paying the man-- Butch is making the decisions that continue to make him a laughingstock. That's all Butch.

Anyone have an answer to this one?? I sure don't...

They already gave him this which seems like something we would've done in the previous 5 years or so:

Terrible terrible idea.
