We could lose to ETSU and some of you morans would be hailing it as a sign that Pruitt is the next Saban by replicating the 2007 loss to ULM. No way in hades we're beating WVA. We're coming off our worst season in modern history, had a bad recruiting class (at least for a program that wants to contend in the SEC), and we're bleeding players. I doubt we will even see a bowl game again this decade. Maybe we'll be in the Liberty Bowl by 2020. 2021 will be a rebuilding year and we'll have another coach by 2022. You heard it hear first.

Woof.

I'm all for tempering expectations, but it seems like last year really broke some of you guys.

We went bowling in 2010 with a talk show host for a HFC and a recruiting class of which half got arrested before the season. That was with a #7 Oregon visiting and at ranked LSU and Carolina. Dooley didn't have a good OL until 2012, when our defense was the reason for our suckage. I'm pretty sure we started multiple freshmen on OL that year.

I know there are never any direct comparisons in any sports. No such thing as the transitive property.

OL is our biggest hindrance this year. We have bodies at every single other position on the depth chart, that it seems the most negative among us have completely written off.

The entire team quit last year. Our coaching was atrocious. That's not a great thing to have to defend, but the only way to get players back on board in the short term is to fire the old staff, let some "bad eggs" leave (I don't think players that transfer out are inherently bad human beings, just bad in the sense of the locker room), and to coach up your existing guys as far as you possibly can.

Our schedule is tough next year, but it's not 2013 tough. We will get at least five wins, and I'm pretty much expecting six for a bowl game.

No way we suck 2017-bad for the next two years. No. effing. way.

Butch's biggest success at UT was lowering expectations to the point that a bowl game-- any bowl game--becomes a goal. That is just so Kentucky.

Butch's biggest success at UT was ... hmm there were just soo many...was beating GA and Fla, then losing to SC and Vandy?? I can recall exactly who. And not making Atlanta, with the best TN teamin decades.

what a **** stick.

I think it will take Pruitt and staff a solid three years to get this program to true championship level. I'm extremely confident in this staff's ability to develop guys, but I will say I'm a tad bit concerned with recruiting right now. We have to be in the top ten at the very least come signing day 2019 IMO. If we don't, I think we'll just be falling further and further behind UGA and Bama.

This is a three or four year build, and that's if we have the right guy. No more blind faith, you gotta show me now.

I hope JG gets it done this spring. If not Chryst will probably start. He had good TD/int ratios despite the lower 55% completion percentage. The number of incompletions that were a result of having to throw the ball away would be good to know. It's the forgotten variable in looking at completion percentages. JG's would have been much worse had he learned to throw it away instead of holding it too long and getting his brains kicked in last season.

With how Stanford uses RBs in the passing game that’s a red flag percentage wise. He’s pretty inconsistent as well.

You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one :)

Yes. Ive been listening to too many of them for the past decade. I'm disappointed in the hire. The one saving grace was supposed to be recruiting and that is starting to look like we got jobbed, again. And now we're supposed to believe that hard practices and tough love coaching are going to result in some David vs. Goliath stuff. It's just a bunch of baloney. UTAD must hate us all.

I completely get why you're pessimistic. And our AD has bent us over for the last 10 years, no doubt. I think it's too early to be out on this staff for recruiting. If we are not Top 10, come next February and we have sucked on the field in the Fall, I might be with you. I think it's fine to not have blind faith in the new staff. And, honestly, if you would have told me we were going to end up with Jeremy Pruitt right after we finally fired Butch, I would have been incensed. So, I am in wait and see, but I like some of the things happening. Recruiting is the key.

Well put. This is almost exactly where I am. I can see it both ways on Pruitt right now. He could inspire us to play above expectations, or he could be in way over his head and we could completely flop. Recruiting is key long term, but I honestly think for Pruitt winning this fall is key. Right now, he’s bumping up against UT’s recruiting glass ceiling. We’ve stunk for a long time and the program is harder to sell to recruits because of it. Make a bowl this fall and all is well recruiting wise. Miss a bowl, and it will set us back a lot, I fear.

Plenty of teams have turned it around in one season. I choose to believe Pruitt and staff can do it as well. Screw the doom and gloom. If the kids buy in they will be a tough out.

Oline is in better shape than when Kiffin was here and he was a field goal away from beating Bama. It can be done.

Nobody comes here to sit on the bench, TBH. If he's the best, then I will fully support him. I am still thinking JG is going to thrive with some better coaching.

This is a little different tho. He for sure has one year left and he had to have been told at least “hey you have a good chance to start” or he wouldn’t have chose to come here.
