Butch Jones, the Intern...

i think it's telling that Bama's assistant coaches are getting P5 head coaching jobs and our former head coaches are analysts, position coaches or social media darlings.

we've been doing this wrong for a while.

I bet Saban doesn't even have an actual use for Jones. He probably just liked the idea of a former UT head coach only being an intern at Bama.

Just proves he’s a better judge of ability than one of our previous ADs. Intern is about where Jones should be placed.

I’d trade Jones for Pruitt any day.

And to think, the guy who we were counting on to match wits with Saban, to stand on the opposing sideline from Saban, to win recruiting battles vs Saban, to beat Saban on game days for the last 5 seasons......the only place he could land is at Alabama as Saban’s freaking Intern.

Sad as hell. It doesn’t get any worse than going from an SEC HC to an intern.

Who cares what he, or any other former coach, is doing or where? It's in the past.

It's not like he's going to help scout against UT or any other SEC team. He couldn't evaluate is own players at UT or figure out what other teams were going to do anyway.

Time to stop talking about him and using him to make ourselves feel better.

Consider that we first hired Saban's intern (Dooley), then we replaced him by hiring the guy (Butch) who would later become Saban's intern. At least Fulmer had the good sense to trade the intern for Saban's DC, quite a step up I would say. :good!:

At least if CJP doesnt work out for some reason, I can say with strong confidence he will quickly have another job that wont be called "intern". :eek:k:

You think far too highly of the people who hired Butch. Butch was hired because 1) he had the best resume out of anyone who said they'd take the job at that time and 2) simply to get the program back to respectability, which he actually did for about a year, before dropping off a cliff in the last season and a half.

Very few schools are actually in a position to hire a coach (if needed) who could reasonably match wits with Saban immediately. Everyone else, including Tennessee, has to hire a guy who might emerge into that role after a period of time.

It would depend upon how bad he did not work out. Tennessee has become career suicide for head coaches.

There is a reason why no big name HC would take the job and it is not just about the money.

Saban has a habit of hiring former head coaches, either as coordinators or as analysts.

He will not be coaching on the field so you all can't boo him like you did Kiffin. I suspect that is what most of you are really mad about.

Butch will come out in a year marketing himself as Saban's next big protege and he will start up his dog and pony show back up again.

Probably and with the right job at the right school he will be successful. He is not as bad a coach as folks want him to be.

If I didn't know any better, I would say Coach Fulmer made a $100,000 bet with Alabama AD that they wouldn't hire him and lost.

Double or nothing on Currie?

Maybe Alabama thought winning was too easy and decided to challenge themselves by self-imposing a handicap (Jones) on their football program.

Or they miss locking Lane Kiffen out facilities and buses and needed a new Punk Butch to mess with!

I am all for guys doing what they want when fired from a previous coaching position , but they are just basically paying him for information about Tennessee and he doesn't need the money. IMO He is just making a mockery of himself with very little reimbursement. Riding the TN buyout gravy train while feeding info to Saban for 45k a year is just low.

Except for the players, everything is new. We don't have any secret deer antler spooge lotion for making freak athletes.

All they need to do is study themselves or their former coach (Pruitt) to know what to expect...plus Tyson Helton.

I am disappointed that Butch would do this. An intern? For bammer?!

Seriously, and I do mean seriously. I know we were trending up after the first year, seemed to be going in the right direction. What do you really think caused the wheels to come off in such a drastic time frame after year 3?

Seriously, considering Pruitt coached under Saban I'm pretty sure he has all the information he needs, going to Butch to ask about Tennessee is not going to be very beneficial.

If you think they wouldn't be interested in knowing the inner runnings of the Tennessee program over the past five years then I just don't see where you are coming from. There are so many small non coaching related details that could be used to Alabama's advantage.
