For the first time, I feel as excited about VOLS basketball as football.

I think we really have a good x/o football coach, though. Certainly there are enough kids that have said he is the best coach they ever had.

He's got a good staff and he had a better recruiting class than Butch his first year. (If I'm not mistaken) I think people are panicking in March over not getting commitments. Lots of these guys he's going after are the kind who have many choices. I don't think Pruitt sells them snake oil either. We'll just have to wait and see.

A lot of the reasons he bombed out on late recruits is that he was shooting high and because these guys have multiple options, they are harder to get. He did fill in with some lower rated players as a back up, but I hope he continues to go after the best. Having a higher rate of rejections may be the best strategy if he is going after better players.

I get what you’re saying, but none of that matters if we have the right coach. Only time will tell if that’s the case, but I’m not gonna waste my time worrying about him failing 4 months into the job.

I'm not worried, either. Nor am I excited, upset, blindly optimistic or pointlessly pessimistic. I like him, but I have no idea if he'll be a great HC. Nobody can really know that. I'm 100% wait and see.

Another hot take on recruiting, I think Pruitt is losing the negative recruiting battles at the moment.

People can easily say: “Pruitt’s a great coach, but he doesn’t have HC experience. That fanbase wants to win right away and Pruitt is up against a tough schedule with a less than perfect roster. The fanbase will turn on him quickly if he doesn’t deliver. You want to commit to a guy that may not be your coach for your four years of school? Look at how the turnover has killed the five stars that have committed there. Most have not been developed because of coaching turnover. Come to a more stable situation!”

I still believe we need to sell out for a “home run hire” to end our rut. I’m not confident Pruitt gets it done. But I fully support him and the team!

There’s no such thing as a home run hire anymore IMO.

Yeah, may not be given how the last cycle went. My bigger point is I think our last few hires have been lower profile and therefore easily chewed up by negative recruiting and bad narratives from the media and other coaches (not to mention the fans). It could be we need someone who transcends that from day one to finally overcome that persistent cycle.

But Pruitt could very well be that guy. Time will tell and I am pulling for him!

Tight end Ethan Wolf was unsure about his 40 time but believed his overall showing Monday was solid. The senior tight end felt like he showcased his ability as a receiver and in-line blocker.

Wolf said teams are curious about his straight-line speed due to “lacking that on film because I wasn’t used that way.”

agreed. and i don't think he's doing that necessarily. just commenting on what might yet come if things don't change for the positive, relatively quickly.

Yeah, I didn’t mean LA Vol in particular, just many that have been fretting over it lately.

I’m cautiously optimistic because I think he is a real football coach, first and foremost. It’s reassuring to me that his former players love him and rave about how good of a coach he is. We will see if he has everything else that it takes to be a successful HC.

The one thing I keep going back to on Pruitt's potential is Saban. Saban has had to deal with a ton of turn over with his coaching staff over the years. However, DC was stable for a long time. It makes me confident knowing that Saban had a long time to evaluate who he would want as his DC after Smart, and he chose Pruitt.

Exactly how I feel.

Evan Berry responding in his own words with what BrB and I have been saying for years on here. It's always better to play guys in positions that are natural to them that they like to play. Evan ran effortlessly with the ball in his hands. He has good hands and sees the field extremely well. Only doofuses such as Butch would make him play back-up safety. Same with forcing Coleman Thomas to play OT as a freshman, Byrd to play slot, Gaulden to play NB, etc. When you do that stuff you are messing with a guy's life and career. It's no wonder he played the wrong guys when he had better players sitting on the bench. He didn't know any better.
