Thats fair. I was pretty salty last night about the game. Im sure he was hurt and couldnt play. I just wish that as a whole, everyone had given more effort to get the win because it looked pretty lackadaisical out there.
I get it. I got banished to my room for being upset at the officiating in front of my kids.
People just say some odd and crazy things when emotions are involved. I just don't think our team played well, it wasn't effort. This team still had flaws. It had offensive lapses all year. If Schofield was out, Grant was the option. But he was blanketed yesterday. Our guards aren't consistent enough to get their own shot. Just the way it goes.
I still feel like they overlooked them and when we went up early when they were struggling, it just confirmed that they could just coast to the win. By the time we got out of that mindset, it was just too late. Jmo.
The reason we lost is because our guards couldn't hit the three ball, wide open, while theirs we draining contested threes all night long. Our guards couldn't drive and when they tried they were physically assaulted at the rim and couldn't get a whistle. At the same time their guards would drive and if we contested the shot at all the refs bailed them out time after time with a foul. Kyle would have no doubt helped by challenging shots at the rim and with rebounding but our lack of guard play cost us the game.
Bone missing a layup which caused Schofield to pick up his second foul was a turning point. I am not sure Schofield ever scored again.
Based on their interviews all year, they were on a mission and didn't take anything for granted. Just got beat.
I still feel really good about the basketball team and Rick Barnes. A Sweet 16 would have made this season pretty much perfect for me, but it was a great run nonetheless. Got everyone coming back. I fully expect another 25+ win season next year, which will be sorely needed as I think we're in for another rough year on the football field.

Im a little late on the analysis but I thought we really missed Kyle on the high ball screen. All year our big men have hedged really hard on them and been able to recover due to Kyle being able to cover up any late rotations if it wasnt him hedging. I thought we would have been better off last night not hedging that play as hard and forcing the guy to drive the ball. Loyola was very good at making the extra pass or pump faking into a wide open shot once we started scrambling. They may have been the best passing team we played all year and they shot really well. Just my two cents...
Also, I wish Jordan would have driven the ball hard that last play instead of pulling up but I understand its hard to do when time is running out.

The big man was with sister Jean and Loyola yesterday. I only got to see the last 10 minutes or so but I thought it was an excellent game by both teams. Our core still has another two years. I feel good about the team too. This was a fun year with a lot of great wins and good memories. Seasons like that are few and far between around here in the major sports so you have to enjoy them when they come, and focus on the positives rather than the what could have beens. When I heard Kyle Alexander couldnt go before the game I knew it was going to be a grind. We dont have elite talent, so if we miss even one piece it makes the whole thing harder.
No guarantees we can do this again next year at the same level. Players could get injured, a few more balls could bounce the other way in close games (as they did on Saturday). I expect us to be a tournament team next year, but anything beyond that is gravy.
