Title 9 has never killed a sport. All it required was an equal number of scholarships. The university could add more sports if it wanted to but it doesn't want to.

Barring the university deciding to keep adding scholarships, football is the real issue. It sucks up all the men's scholarships but we all like football better. Convince UT to add more scholarships and you can have your cake and eat it too.

If they add a male sport they need to add a female sport. Football doesn't kill other sports. NCAA with their scholarship limit of less scholarships that what would field a full team kills other sports.

Nothing wrong with adding more sports on both sides but football does suck up the men's scholarships. It requires a ton of players.

Yes but football and basketball are the only 2 sports in all of NCAA where the entire 1st team in on scholarship. Every other sport the scholarships are split between athletes

No nothing wrong with it. If a kid is good enough they should be allowed to go to college on scholarship for those sport. Too bad it doesn't happen

That was painful to watch. Breaks my heart all over again.

Me too, but he will soon realize that this is just one chapter in the story, and the ending has yet to be written. These sorts of failures create the drive for good players to make themselves great.

Think it's bad now? It's going to be pouring salt in the wound watching UK take advantage of the busted bracket to sail to the F4. The Cats could make it to the championship game. When you're handed opportunities, you have to make the most of them. That's twice that UT hasn't.

When was the first?

Most of the time I like you, right now not so much.

Oh ok. I didn't really think that hurt our chances much in the NCAAT. Heck, if we got the 2 seed, we would have played a 7 instead of an 11.

But, I get it.

Actually, I didn't care as much about the seeding. I wanted the Vols to have the championship title and hang another banner. I think it would have been good for the program and the fanbase and a confidence-booster for the team.

Those are head count sports. The NCAA protected them because they are the two most popular sports.

All other sports got stuck with being deemed equivalency sports. To make up for football, if you look at the scholarship limit charts you'll often see women's sports have a fractional difference that gives them slightly more than the men so softball has a 12 to baseball's 11.7 and so on. That is the NCAA's way of evening out their scholarship limits so that there's an equal number.

Broken hearted for my BB Vols. They gave it all just came up a little short. Very proud of the season they had and gave us something to cheer about and be proud of. Can't wait to see what these guys do next year. Great season young men!

It honestly looked like we thought we could coast through. Sitting Alexander was a mistake because he looked fine the game before. It’s march everyone is good. No coasting.

For those of you who gamble, I’d say it’s pretty safe to bet on Cincinnati losing tomorrow. Because that’d be about par for the course for Tennessee.
