Kahlil declares for draft

I disagree. I think he’s built for NT in the 3-4.

He may be built like a Tarzan for 3-4 NT--but he plays like Jane.....

He's an OL in the NFL or nothing at all....he just don't have "IT" as a DL....

Same thing happened LONG AGO with Richard Cooper....

Tennessee tried to make him a DL, but he was converted into a starting OL in the NFL and did very well....

Maybe the same will happen with Kahlil....I truly hope so...

I remember Richard Cooper. He played both ways in college. This McKenzie OL is a VN pipe dream. He’ll eventually play well at NT...perfectly built for it. He’s never been a penetrating pass rushing DT type. Occupy blockers and plug running lanes. Nice way to make a living.

I wonder what an Oline would have looked like with Trey Smith and Kmac as bookends. I’ve always thought he was a better fit on the Offensive Line.

Had KMac been moved over to OL, I think he would’ve been a guard, not a tackle. KMac is a plugger, a space eater who needs to play in close quarters imo. He doesn’t have the athleticism/feet/explosion to in space imho.

He wouldn’t have been an OT. Interior lineman build. Never saw the blocking aspect. He’ll do well as a NT.

Plus he has relatively short arms.

if what you believe is true, it is sad that, any more, all these kids care about is themselves..no more school/team loyalty...i know they have to make a living eventially, but just because the team may no be great, let's just jump ship, huh?....

I seriously love your idealism, but are you sure it isn't "great grand" pappy? Just joking, wish loyalty still existed.

I’ve been one of KMac’s biggest detractors on here AS A PLAYER, because I think he fell woefully short of lofty expectations given who he was supposed to be. Imho, he never sniffed what he was supposed to be, and as such I, along with pretty much everybody else, was shocked that he declared early.

All that said, I couldn’t help but pull big time for him today as I watched a former Vol give great effort in his “events” at the combine. He wasn’t the player I hoped he’d be at Tennessee, but by all accounts he’s a fine young man, and I hope he gets a good opportunity to make living in the nfl and redeems himself with a long, productive career. I’ll be pulling for him big time on draft day and beyond.

Saw an article I couldn’t pull up today on why he left Tennessee, anyone see it or can post it, jus curious on what his thoughts are on leaving..

Talk about changing your tune.

Your criticism of Kahlil was never limited to simply failing to meet expectations. If that was it, I would have agreed with you. He was billed as a generational interior defensive lineman and one of the five best players in his class. He definitely failed to meet those expectations. But nonetheless he had a solid college career.

You argued that he was a bad player. That he never made an impact. And that was simply untrue. You just lacked the football knowledge to know what skills he brought to the table and how he affected the game without necessarily affecting the stat sheet.

Now you're changing your tune because you saw that he tested well at the combine and looks to have a solid NFL career coming up. A few months ago you were basically guaranteeing he had zero chance to make it in the league.

Your flip-flopping is just downright pathetic.

Haven’t changed my tune even 1 tiny bit. He was nowhere near the player he was supposed to be at Tennessee, I think it was a mistake that he entered the draft early and I think he’s either drafted in the 7th round or not at all. So you’re wrong as usual, I’m 100% consistent here.

I’m only saying that as a lifelong Vol fan, I couldn’t help but pull hard for him and wish him well. I hope he does like some players who fall short in college do, which is become a better pro, a better nfl player than he was for his Alma mater. I’ve never once said anything his character, and I think he has always been and continues to be a good kid....I wish him well and will be pulling for him.

Okay. I take back my criticism.

I thought you were now gonna take the "I only thought he failed to meet expectations but was solid in college" route.

So you still think he has no shot at a solid pro career. We'll just have to wait and see if you are wrong once again.

I think Kahlil gets drafted higher than the 7th round and has a solid 7+ year NFL career.

Based on what we saw of him at Tennessee, I think him having a solid nfl career is a long shot at best. He has the physical measurables, he’s a good athlete at his size, he showed that today, although I was surprised that he only repped 225 26 times, thought he’d do well north of 30. What I’m saying here, and all I’m saying here, is that I’m pulling for him to do well and have a solid nfl career.

I've never flip-flopped in my life. Everything I say I stand behind 100%.

That’s just not true. How many times have you been called out for doing just that, only to say “well, with more information, ive change my thoughts/opinion”? Let me help you here....about 1000 times and counting.

NFL Evaluation

Strengths
Comes from impressive bloodlines
Has a frame built for eating up blockers
Well-proportioned frame with outstanding thickness from his ankles to his waist
Plays with good initial hand quickness
Gets hands on blocker early
Plays with upper body power to punch and hold the edge
Consistent finisher as tackler when he gets his shot
Game should benefit greatly from improved hand usage
Has some downhill push as a bull-rusher

Weaknesses
Just one season as a starter
Was unable to post impactful production at Tennessee
Slow to diagnose play direction
Gets reached by blockers rather than playing ahead
Too easily uprooted from his spot for playing the role of space-eater
Ends up on the ground too often
Needs better technique to combat down blocks
Has size and strength but doesn't always play to it

7th round Projection

Similar to his play....

I hate this because he had the chance to be immortal. If he had a coach that could have developed him into what he should have been

Another 5 star "beast" that didn't match the hype. I'm not going to say coaching wouldn't have helped, but clearly it didn't stop Barnett, who btw, was not a 5 star recruit if memory serves. Some players are driven and have "it". Those guys end up in the NFL. Hope Mac makes it and proves me wrong, but I don't see the drive, the passion for the game. Sure hope he gets a useful degree from UT. Same deal with Kongbo. All hype.

Basically he wanted to focus on football 100%...in my words:tired of playing school

Spot on of KMac based on what we saw of him at Tennessee.

Hopefully he gets with the right organization, he commits himself to improving his weaknesses and he has a good, productive nfl career.

I honestly believe KMac missing his entire senior season set his development back. Add in the fact that he played under Butch Jones and you get the extreme disappointing career he has had. KMac will probably be a solid player. Especially with good coaching.

Yall just had unrealistic expectations for him from a production standpoint. I remember in 2015 when we signed him that Danny Shelton (a nose tackle from Washington) was entering the draft. And I compared Kahlil to him. I never expected Kahlil to be a high sack or TFL type of player. I expected him to be a dominant 1-technique. Now he was a solid to good 1-technique, but he wasn't dominant.

Yall just made the mistake of assuming he was a type of defensive lineman his body simply didn't support.

It's so liberating to know that not only was I completely wrong, but y'all all were too. Sweet release.
