Official Bracketology Thread

Not sure what to think about the B1G, mostly because I don’t really know who we have a better shot at passing - Purdue or MSU. According to the committees value on the quadrants, it would be MSU. But I don’t think we can just hope for both MSU and Purdue to get bounced early since OSU and Michigan aren’t too far behind and if either win the B1G they’d pass us.

Lunardi does not want us in Nashville. If the first two rounds were in Birmingham, then Auburn would deserve to go there. If it is a close call, then the NCAA will put us over Auburn in Nashville.

Other than that, I like that bracket.

I get it that lunardi doesn't have us in Nashville or ahead of auburn but I was referring to BTOs post saying we moved ahead of Auburn but still not in Nashville. I was wondering who he had in Nashville

We aren't on the same page.

BTO said we had passed Auburn on the seed line BUT we still weren't in Nashville.

I don't see how that is possible

Yeah, it baffles me. But Auburn will lose early in the SEC Tourny. Shoot, they may even lose to USCe. They remind me of Pearl's first Tennessee team. It is at the end of the season, and they are gassed. Only they don't have Chris Lofton, and have less depth that we did. They will fall to a 4.

I think at this point they are slightly ahead of us because of head to head and Q1 record. We have to get ahead of them to be in Nashville imo

I think this is right. Lunardi doesn't care about attendance at these games but the committee does. They would have to prefer Tennessee in Nashville over Auburn. If it's close enough between us to justify (in other words, if we both win on Saturday and finish in a tie), I think we go to Nashville.

Being ahead of auburn isn't good enough to get Nashville?

No...that was my point yesterday, we needed to pass 2 eastern teams, or if Cincy is replaced by Wichita/Houston then just 1 spot.

There are 4 eastern sites: Detroit, Pittsburgh, Charlotte and Nashville...2 teams at each location means 8 teams ahead of us fighting for same locations. That’s why I was saying Wichita or even Houston replacing Cincinnati would be huge, it would eliminate another team fighting for same locations.

Per the team sheets which is what I linked...

Virginia- Charlotte
Villanova- Pitt
Duke- Charlotte
Kansas- Wichita
Purdue- Detroit
Michigan State- Detroit
North Carolina- Pitt
Xavier- Nashville
Cincinnati- Nashville
Tennessee- that’s leaves Tennessee going out west

The committee won’t do that...they would have to have Tennessee higher on the seed list. If Tennessee is a 3 and they put us in Nashville and Auburn is a 2 and they ship them to Wichita there is going to be some serious hell getting raised nationally.

Lot of variables like that. I hope we can just win out from here and give ourselves a chance for a 2.

Of the brackets updated today in the matrix, Tennessee is in a tie for the 2nd 3 seed with Cincinnati. Then there is a large drop off to the 4th 3 seed - Wichita St.

So is this scenario Purdue, Cincy, auburn and Tenn are all 3 seeds but Cincy and Purdue are the highest ones?

No...Purdue is a 2 seed

1 seeds:
Virginia- Charlotte
Villanova- Pitt
Duke- Charlotte
Kansas- Wichita

2 seeds:
Purdue- Detroit
Michigan State- Detroit
North Carolina- Pitt
Xavier- Nashville

3 seeds:
Cincinnati- Nashville
Tennessee- that’s leaves Tennessee going out west

Is there an easy way to view that? I looked at the site and just manually did the math from today’s and didn’t come up with a tie...although I did come up with Auburn/Cincy/Tennessee being neck and neck for the top 3 spot.

Who is the other 3 seed?

What's Cincy Q1 record?

I just copy and pasted it into excel and did the math

After looking back at the NCAA announced seeds a few weeks ago I am convinced the SEC number 1 team is going to be in Nashville over Cincy or anyone else on that 3 seed line. Auburn at 5 was a statement made that day imo

That’s fine and I’m not arguing that, simply stating that going off the team sheet rankings from today we are ahead of Auburn but still not in Nashville.

I follow you finally

I just think the committee is going to start with conference champions. That is why Mich state is in a great spot

I don’t think there’s much historical evidence to support that, they have been pretty deliberate about following the seed list

Teams we need to root for to be Q1 W's for us:
- Texas A&M, projected 29 (need to stay 30+)
- NC State, projected 53 (needs 50+)
- Miss State, projected 69 (needs 75+)
- South Carolina, projected 76 (needs 75+)
