The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Yeah, same here. My only question is how it will hold up under recoil, or if I bump it. The mount GV sent me attaches to the front sight base; puts the light in about the same place; and it's mounted to the "frame" of the gun, as opposed to the hand guard. I have a feeling I'm going to owe GV some money, but I at least want to try them both out in day and night conditions.

Grenade launcher. Hmmmm. Now you've gotta think that GV might have a couple of those lying around in his basement. Maybe if I ask nicely...

Mine is about in the same position as yours. I put a Magpul MOE 3” rail on top of the stock grips and it let me attach a top rail QD mount offset taclite ring I bought. I was worried about muzzle pressure shattering the light lens too. I’ve put about 100 rounds down mine with no issues at all. I bet it works out.

Keep me posted on the M203!!

GV have you used any Anvil Arms lowers and if so any issues with them?

I've typically worked on Aero (or the different branded versions of that like Palmetto) Anderson (as I mentioned before) Stag (actually CMT) and messed around with my BCM.

Yep thats them. I purchased 3 of them when they were in business and have not used them.

Meh, what do you have to lose at this point?

Generally an AR-15 receiver is an AR-15 receiver. Sometimes you'll get a dud as I mentioned before where the adonizing is a little thicker or the takedown holes don't really match well. But by and large, most will work.

I will say steer clear of any 6061 aluminum receivers or manufacturers that can't/won't tell you what material it is. Always, always, always go with 7075. Forged preferred. The 7075 is almost twice as strong with nearly zero weight gain.

ETA: Nothing against billet lowers as they work perfectly fine. Just overwhelmingly, forged metals are always stronger. Steer clear of cast though.

I picked up a lot of stuff the last time the market went crazy. Anvil arms, Sun Devil Manufacturing, really low SN# Black rain Ord, VLTOR uppers. That is the stuff I could get my hands on but have not put a single one together yet.

Here's a good explanation of the high tang difference:

DPMS LR 308 Products

And here:

The Difference in 308 Upper Receivers and What We Must Know

It does say it uses DPMS components. Which a lot of rifles will. Mainly the parts that aren't as "critical" so to speak as the rest of the rifle. Bolt catch, mag release, etc. The good news is most AR-15 triggers will work fine with your lower. So, when you buy that Geissele SSA-E, it'll drop right in. Same with pistol grips. The screws will work between an AR-10 and AR-15. However, some manufacturers use a slightly larger tang on their grip for an AR-10.

I'd assume you are going for a carbine setup? If so, I'd recommend the Armalite AR-10 carbine extension.

AR-10(R) 6 Position Receiver Extension Kit (No Stock) - AR10REKIT01 - Armalite | Armalite

Little longer than a standard AR so you won't get a full "collapse" on your stock. Not that big a deal though. Thread pitch on your Aero should be 1/11, though I didn't see that mentioned. I'd check first before buying that extension. But basically, the Armalite extension is more or less the same length as the Vltor A5 system with an H3 buffer. Works like a champ. It actually uses a rifle spring in a carbine tube.

Really good thing is all your mags can be Magpul.

Hope this answered your question.

Yes that helps! As always I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience. Hope I'm not wearing out my welcome so to speak. :hi:

Dang, that's the one I want. Asking price?

$1200 seem fair?

Also, they are big ticket items, but they would love to sell the 50 and the Lapua together, would take $10k for both. That's a really good price, but I know it would take the right buyer. I'm just trying to help sell them.

Where’s this at?

I’m interested

For any of you looking to build, I was fooling around on the Aero Precision website and noticed they have some of their blems on sale. AR10 lowers were $113 think. Uppers were around $101 I think.

Pics of the Barrett, Lapua, and also a Thompson 1927 A1 for sale.

There are also a few M1 rifles -- H&R M1 Garand, Springfield 1917 Eddystone, and Springfieild M1 Garand. These are probably more for collectors than for field use.

I've heard a few people hype up Bud's for great selection and low prices. I went there to get ammo and look for accessories. Very nice store, but they did not have the HST rounds I was looking for, so I settled for Hydra Shoks (not that they are bad rounds by any means). Then I decided to stop by SMKW on a whim on the way out, and they had waaaayyyyyy more selection including the HST rounds I was looking for at a lower price than I had just bought the Shoks.

Go to Knife Works to buy your stuff, then go to Bud's to shoot.

The last time I was at the Knife store, they had just started carrying firearms, so I didn't realize they had expanded their selection so much by now. I was very impressed.

$1200 seems VERY fair. I was expecting a number in the 1300-1400 range, but then I don't know much about the gun market, so...

Alas, I must pass. It's purely a "want", and not a "need", and now I'm looking at maybe new handguards for my AR, so there's that.

Thanks for the offer, though. That gun should go quick at that price.

Shocking...

Or she just gets you to send your rifle to me with a blank check for a couple of weeks.

What are the serial numbers for the garands? If they’re CMP any idea about what grade they were sold at?

Springfield 5801513
H&R 5612950
Eddystone 415220
A 1941 model that I can't definitively discern the characters is pictured.

I don't know their selling grade, but they are all in very nice condition.

Okay, Golf, what kind of budget are we looking at?

No real budget. I'd like to spend a little as possible but for a good quality, reliable gun that holds it's value well. Typically something "mid-range" I'd guess. Particularly the one for 3-gun use, as that would get far more use. The hog gun would get added to a wish list. I've got a Marlin 308 that I would typically use.
