Mass shooting of the week, high school in parkland, FL.

Put an armed officer in the schools. That really helped in Florida.

If you are referring to the football coach who served as security guard was it not reported that he was unarmed at the time of the shooting? It’s a question not a statement.

Edit: withdrawn I did a quick search a found a link that an armed resource officer was present.

I found another article that said he might not have been on school property at the time of the attack. I guess we'll find out as more facts come out.

The coach that was killed was a security guard. They carry walkie talkies and escort kids around the halls and make sure they aren’t skipping classes, they are not trained to take on an actual threat.

Douglas like all the other public schools in the parkland / Coral Springs area have a SRO on campus with an office. The SRO office is in the Main campus building near the normal front office of a school we are all used to. The shooting took place in a satellite building across campus.

In the 6 minute time frame from the first shots to the kid ditching the weapon it would be hard for any police officer to figure out / stop an attack at a school the size of a small college. Nobody is placing blame on the officer down here.

Oh you want to play the victim card now?! Oh HELL no! That option flew the coop many pages ago.

First off I feel I need to state this. Luther I am not coming for you stuff. That is unlawful and well mean. Neither is SCV and he stated that earlier even though I goaded another reply out of him. Neither of us are coming for your stuff.

We are not twisting jack. Your primary ploy is attack the poster! Insinuate I’m a nut thru the label gun nut, etc.. and unless you can prove it you just slandered me by labeling me a menace to society by claiming I am three times more likely to commit a violent act with a weapon. So I implore you if you believe that you have a civil duty to report me ESPECIALLY in light of recent events. You need to act on that if you believe it.

Luther YOU are the bully with your oppressive ideology on gun control as far as I’m concerned.

And you continue with ad hominem attacks as that is your ONLY play as you have no logical basis for debate!

YOU are the problem here Luther! YOU!!
I'm guessing that whole post was tongue in cheek.

Make a guess. Have I been labeled libtard more or less than you have been labeled gun nut? It's an easy one.

And I'm okay with that. I just get a kick of how sensitive you guys are.

Pure speculation and quite weak. The guy who is on offense and with benefit of surprise, armed with an AR 15, is quite a favorite over a guy with a handgun, even well trained. Not to mention the host of risks created by a handgun walking around a high school on a daily basis.

How about if the shooter was armed with a Remington 700 or Browning A bolt in anything from .270 up thru 300 winmag and got the drop on the guard? Same outcome? So outlaw deer rifles?

Pure speculation with zero facts to back up this claim.

Down here we have SROs (who are armed) at every public school in the county. Never heard any of any issues.

It’s a difficult argument for me to make without sounding like a hypocrite bc I can say you don’t need your ARs but I own a 700 horsepower Camaro and I definitely don’t NEED that I just think weapons like that should be harder to attain
Again, why should they be harder to obtain?

They are licensed and identified LEOs, not coaches who might easily be expected to ocassionally, if not daily, leave their guns while they tend to other tasks.

Please see the post I made above. Do you agree the outcome would probably have been the same for either weapon deer rifle or AR15?

Would you rather attacked by someone with a knife or a gun? You tell me which one you’ve got a better chance surviving against
Hobson's choice. I can tell you this much, if I am going to die, I want to be shot in the face rather than gut cut and left to bleed out.

Your question is irrelevant to the discussion and like luther you are deflecting.

I’m gonna stick up for him. He came in asking questions with an open mind. I think we have to be receptive to that. I had a good dialog with him and I’m glad he posted his points.

Been lurking in here for the past few days, haven’t seen this touched on yet.

How did the shooter get inside the school? Anyone know?

Prior knowledge existed (including the latest event) for several of the tragic shootings, and bombings here in the US. Sure a lot can be done by tightening gun laws... but until the authorities get their heads our of their azzes and follow the leads, then this will continue I fear.

Per the SunSentinel

"He came when he knew the gates would be open and set off a fire alarm that would dismantle a safety system, officials say. And the school resource officer, who is supposed to help protect students, may not have been on school grounds at the time".

Thanks.

This is the first thing that needs to be addressed then imo

During the school day there should be one way in and one way out. I have other ideas pertaining to that but I would think most would agree that’s a good starting point.

100% complete and total BS. I live in Hall Co. I work in Hall Co. (closely related to the public school system) My wife teaches in Hall Co.. My son is a freshman at a high school in Hall Co. My daughters graduated from Hall Co. schools. That is the biggest load of crap I have heard in quite some time and completely indicative of the kind of propaganda that is propagated by the right.

By the way. Did you go to the UT bball game in Athens last night? my son and I went. We were not to far behind the UT bench.
That’s just what she said.

And yes, we sat up top because that’s the only tickets we could find under $100! It sucked losing, but it was still a good time. Hope you had fun other than the loss of course.

Wait until jihad makes it's way to a school like this. You think they aren't reading the reaction to this on all these social media sites? They will make this look like a 4th grade bicycle wreck. And you liberals are giving them all the more motivation to make it happen. Lunacy.

That's fine. His motive is exactly the same as luther though. I see right thru it.

Before we spend billions and raise my taxes doing that we should come up with something that might actually be effective.

Next time the guard is in the john. Or taking the deposit to the bank. Or on the other side of the school.

Do you have suggestions?
