Truth is RG is a great position coach, but a below average recruiter. Can't just be a good position coach and be on CJP's staff.

CRG was the recruiting coordinator for Butch Jones and never even offered kids Tennessee needs to be successful. INCLUDING the only running back Tennessee was able to sign Jeremy Banks. When CRG was in charge of recruiting Banks didn't get a offer....

the other thing some of you aren't thinking about is CJP is building his coaching bench.

if we're going to be as good as we want to, some of these position coaches and coordinators are going to get opportunities to move up. it'll be nice to have guys on the bench that can come in continue to recruit, have the familiarity with the roster, system etc....if you're going to have a "winning consistently" as a goal, part of that does include having consistency amongst the coaching ranks.....no one has done that better than Saban.

so it's no wonder that pruitt is assembling off field and position coaches like he has.

lol. there's a couple folks in here that just don't get it.....

i'm sure it's hard not knowing who to root for anymore since Butch STILL hasn't found a landing spot for you to go support.

Does Knoxville Catholic have a fan website like VN? Did Lyle get that gig over there? If he does, look for one dude one here to become FightingIrishFan2000.

Correct. And quite honestly, good running back coaches are a dime a dozen. We should recall that Tennessee had 2 1,000 yard rushers back in the early 2000s when Trooper Taylor, who’d never coached running backs before, was our running backs coach. What’s more important is to recruit some studs running backs who have elite ability that “can’t be coached”. Like Doug Mathews said, a guy who coached some great RBs at Tenn for 8 seasons, “even a monkey can be a running backs coach”.

Some a y'all need to just let Pruitt do his thing.

Y'all saw that team play last year. I did. it's gonna be a process. Micromanaging every move Pruitt makes is going to drive you nuts, plus. What control do we have? Better buckle up.

i think you have a select few that spent the last 5 years defending Butch Jones against certain arguments, that are now using this transition as an opportunity to attempt to use those same arguments against CJP.

a "what's good for the goose, is good for the gander" mentality.

if we're going to call hiring Deboard and Canales bad hires b/c they're friends of butch, then obviously Weinke and Ovaset are bad hires cause they're friends of Pruitt.

it just doesn't work that way though.

as was the case with most of us with Jones, the results will dictate.

the other stuff we're seeing from just a couple of folks here, is butthurt b/c Butch was ultimately fired b/c his style, his scheme, his hires, his management of the staff and roster and his results all warranted it.

Hurd didn’t fit the offense he was recruiting for...Banks surely didn’t.

Let me get this straight. VN is complaining about CJP trading a coach that had to be at least partially responsible for the Hurd disaster and overlooking Kamara for a Heisman Trophy winning, National Championship winner, former coach of IMG, who played and coached in the NFL? Really? We are complaining about that? :ermm:

Note - not saying anything bad about Gillespie but cant see how we are complaining about this trade.

If Gillespie was so good, why are people slamming UT for how Kamara and Kelly were used. Just saying.

many believe that was more CBJ than CRG.

i don't know that anyone really knows one way or the other, but i would say if CRG had strong feelings on how much AK should be used, he either wasn't heard, or didn't do enough to advocate for his getting more touches....or even worse, if he didn't see that he should have gotten more touches.

we'll never know which is which. just go with what AK said....it was effed up.:)

Gillespie was good compared to the rest of the staff.

It's like a Milwaukee 8. She's hot for Milwaukee but barely a "meh" in Miami or LA.

Did he work at the Holiday Inn. before if he did you know he can do the job, just doesn't have the right feel more less getting his Bama's buddy's taken care of rather than going after a elite coach' if i was a elite RB recruit be hard to think a former QB could learn me anything to get to the next level this has the field like JONES going to the state of Michigan and getting a coach everytime we needed one, we need a elite RB coach to coach the running backs not a former QB.
