Just my own observations.

Edit: I did read an article sometime after Sandy Hook that had breakdowns of some of the worst mass murders might not have been just school shootings. If I remember correctly almost every shooter came from affluence and had been on some form of ADHD or similar drug. I'll try and find it.

The availability of guns is a problem, but not sure we are doing anything wrong. The genie is out of the bottle and no amount of laws is going to make guns unavailable.

I still think this is partly an American culture problem, but we are in agreement on the rest.

I agree, but I'm not certain that we are "doing something wrong". Violence is down overall. These mass shootings are troublesome, but if cultural norms that are leading us to be less violent and wealthier are the same norms creating an increase in what is still a rare event, then we probably don't need to change.

For example, take hog's example about medication...if medicating kids makes teenagers 90% less likely to commit sexual assault or join a gang, but it also makes 1 out of 25 million teens into a school shooter, it's probably a good tradeoff, right?

Your original comment is dead wrong UNLESS they knew it before the sale.
The existing laws are fine IF enforced properly.
