Gillespie is out

What are you ladies crying about? Running backs are either good backs or they aren’t. They either have speed and vision or they don’t. He may have been a great coach but I bet half of you didn’t know the RB coaches name before that post and are looking to cry about something. Only butch staffer left? Gee what a wild move to see him going.... I’m sure we will be fine. Those backs were great because they had talent. RB is one of the few positions that is very hard to coach up. You can teach someone to block and catch and throw. Vision and speed are a talent most have or don’t. Put your snot rags away.

You would loose that bet, rookie. We got plenty of guys here who know coaches and players full names and their career stats. They live for it. Careful, or some will wipe your face with their snot rags.

RG didn't suddenly become a bad coach. He didn't screw up and bring this on himself. Pruitt made a decision that Gillespie just didn't fit the rest of the staff. He(Pruitt) wants to go a different direction. He's the HC so he has to do what he deems best. But if hiring Wienke for RB coach is his idea of what's best, I'm scratching my head. I don't like that move. But to hell with what I like if he wins. If we don't win, then I'll be pissed.

I will let Pruitt Know that you have concerns! I am sure he is interested in what the fans think!:)

Everyone wanted Butch & his staff fired.

Pruitt and his staff hasn’t even coached a game yet and now everyone is already having second thoughts.

This place is so comical.

No. Gillespie was our only bright spot last year.

Correction: "most proven assistant" on Butch's staff.

Well let’s see...Gillespie was in charge of managing the following players:

- Jalen Hurd. Great talent, but turned to the dark side. He started causing problems with not practicing, dictating what his role should be, causing dissension, etc....

- Alvin Kamara. NFL Rookie of Year. Was used in wrong role and greatly underutilized. Alvin quote: “s@#$ was *”$@$# up.

- John Kelly - Great talent. Turned to the dark side with off the field issues and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

So how well was this position managed?

I see what you're saying but you're wrong and there's nothing hilarious about it. That's a big loss and after 4-8, and nose diving on signing day, these fans have a right to be upset.

It's always throws me when posters get on and tell folks to be mature. This is a fan forum and when people are upset let them be upset and stfu. Losing Gillespie isn't good no matter how you spin it.

Voicing your opinion but still maintaining the respect of other posters is possible.... I think if some guys knew how silly they look over all this they might cringe.... I’m from the Reggie White school of football.... “I’ve never cried over a football game”...actually you have NO CLUE whether losing RG is a good or bad thing but you are intitled to your...opinion?

.....or maybe it's because he "whiffed" on several RBs he was (and has been) after for a while. He didn't have the excuse of "new to UT"......and with Kamara tearing it up in the NFL...how much more "pro-cred" can he get? And still....

....maybe CJP said, "Wait a minute, you've been recruiting these guys (or should have been) to UT for how many years....and your new head coach was very recently a national championship winning DC...and that's a problem in the eyes of your recruits? GTFO".

Sounds to me like NSD was a litmus test for Gilliespie

Here's how I see it, there were 13 other SEC teams ranked higher than Tennessee at the end of last season, and Robert Gillespie didn't coach for any of them. He's not irreplaceable folks. Get some perspective here.

Who did he miss on?

I'm not going to worry until the season starts and we start losing games.

There is no denying that Gillespie was an elite recruiter and coach. This is a big loss.

Losing him is pretty disheartening TBH and makes me wonder what arguments went on internally for him to be let go. Also, I wonder what the team thinks about this.

Who cares what the team thinks about it. That was one of the issues under our previous coach.

GRIDIRONNOW is reporting sources are saying Gillespie didn't mesh with staff and CJP's identity of the culture changes needed to move the Tennessee program forward. Pruitt found RG had a stale state of mind.

I love it. Liked Coach G. but it's beyond clear that we need a culture change. Get on board or get out of the way.
