Gillespie is out

If this is CJP on the warpath holding coaches accountable for NSD failures, then I like where we're headed. He's paid to WIN, plus some other non variables. If he has zero loyalty to 6/7 figure income staffers who aren't making us elite, then maybe we have the right guy?

Everything above is 100% conjecture, btw.

Gillespie once publicly stated he was content with his running backs only gaining 3 yards on a play.
Maybe Pruitt can land a replacement who won't settle for less than 4.

Honestly, Pruitt looks like the type of guy who isn’t afraid to call out any of his assistants when he doesn’t approve of their actions.

Pretty much wants to win immediately on the recruiting trail & compete for National Titles.

Well we've seen how well the 'immediate' wins on the recruiting trail have gone...

You'll probably be accused of being a Georgia troll. Nothing but positivity round here now:shhh:

We gonna miss RG even if he was a UF guy......never thought I'd say that.

Damage control on your part. Too little too late. Noticed you couldn’t keep an UGA reference out of your post. :)

Per multiple sources, former Florida State Heisman winner and longtime NFL quarterback Chris Weinke has emerged as Pruitt’s top target to round out the Vols’ on-field staff for 2018. Weinke spent the past season as an offensive analyst for national champion Alabama. He also interviewed a year ago for the UT offensive coordinator post. Gridironnow

As being reported by GridironNow, if Pruitt brings in Weinke to coach our RBs, what would be your reaction? I think that is a move similar to Canales coaching our QBs. It just does not make sense. However, I also think Pruitt is smarter than that and will get us a quality replacement. A lot of great RB coaches in the ranks that are not making what RG was at Tennessee.

Look, RG was a solid coach... but I've always found it funny that he's NEVER taken any heat for the whole Jalen Hurd fiasco and AK's limited role in our offense while he was here. RG was given a total pass.

He clearly lost control of Hurd AND failed to advocate properly for AK's playing time. He's as much to blame as Butch was.

Butch as some have noted, was a control freak. Didn't let his DC do things his way, had to be the Butch way. Didn't let his OC do things his way, had to be the Butch way. And you want to tinkle on RG? When your boss bosses you, there ain't much you can do.

RG is a good coach, but if he and Pruitt don't mesh, then so be it. Chemistry is important on a coaching staff. My only hope is we get a real RB coach and not someone like Weinke.

Honestly, I think it would be an absolutely silly hire.

WE NEED A GOOD RB coach that can recruit if you think about it who did RG bring in the last 3 years other than TC, at least he was a gator but something had to go wrong the last week for him to be let go it is more of a concern on his part than JP part, he needs to take his time and get the right fit for us get someone that knows the southeast and that is a good recruiter.

Canales at least had played QB and coached the position most of his career...including at the pro level. I think people dwelled too much on him coaching RB’s at Utah State for the one season before his hire. He didn’t do a good job...that has no bearing on Weinke.

I think Gillespie was a little too laid-back for Pruitt, who's come in with a fire and brimstone attitude that there's no room for slackers... I like the move.

Bring back Jay Graham!

Though, Weinke could be a good hire. I know people are dissing it because he was a QB, but he understands offense and it's not strictly necessary for him to coach QBs. Remember, Scott Frost has coached LBs, WRs, and QBs in his career.

Tyson Helton has coached RBs, TEs, and QBs at various points.

I can understand the potential Weinke hire for the IMG connection, but I agree with most that it would not make much sense in actually coaching RB's.

We would have never landed Jabo Lee without Graham!

Why do you have to play a position to coach it? Weinke could probably coach any position on offense. Is he as good as Gillespie? I doubt it but it’s not a bad hire. Plus he has great ties to IMG academy

RG didn't suddenly become a bad coach. He didn't screw up and bring this on himself. Pruitt made a decision that Gillespie just didn't fit the rest of the staff. He(Pruitt) wants to go a different direction. He's the HC so he has to do what he deems best. But if hiring Wienke for RB coach is his idea of what's best, I'm scratching my head. I don't like that move. But to hell with what I like if he wins. If we don't win, then I'll be pissed.
