The shut down thread

Looks like Schumer caved on the wall. Not sure why it was ever an issue as Mexico is paying for it.

Right?

Well, at least he's willing to compromise. Something the Republicans wouldn't hear of the previous 8 years.

That being said, building a wall is the worst thing our country can do

I don't know if it's the worst thing that can be done, but it's one of the dumbest things that can be done. I just hope it isn't used to keep Americans in if we resort to full blown socialism.

They would both win. The Kennedy mind of 1960 would be a great mind in 2020. CHANGE OVER TIME. It's inevitable (even for the most hard core rightwingers)

Truman would be DOA as soon as he set foot in New Hampshire. I suspect that Kennedy's politics would be a lot further left in today's age.

Its funny some people think that the President who dropped an atomic bomb not once, but twice, on a civilian populace, would somehow be a modern democrat.

Bless your hearts

I am glad you've reconciled that fact. Using those pictures as any kind of real support just reinforces the DDOA statement. I'm hoping you're kidding

If they truly believe in their posts, I'll have to disagree with you.

If you want to debate knowledge and academic intelligence, bring it. Existential doctors, attorneys and engineers, who align diametrically opposed to you, are in this very thread.

Didn't think so.....

It is absolutely possible that a very intelligent person can be a Republican. It is just extremely rare.

Hey dumb ass I was responding to a poster who said that affluent and wealthy kids don't die serving their country. My example wasn't an opinion, it was a fact.

Yeah, I know what you were responding to yahoo. My point is that you used an exception as though it is a norm. Less than 5% of the military would be considered affluent. Check that, it's less than 1%.

Good, so you admit that the post saying that rich and affluent kids don't die for their country was incorrect. Glad we're on the same page.

I'm sure the other poster knows there are a FEW affluent citizens who serve.

He wasn't talking about those who serve, he was talking specifically about the ones who die on the battlefield. There is a difference in case you didn't know. But please, keep defending his absurd comment.

They would? If that's the case, why couldn't Jim Webb make it to the Iowa caucuses? He's a pre-great society democrat like Truman and Kennedy. Poor guy never had a chance despite the fact that he was by far the best general election candidate for the Democrats.

The federal government is full of people who are lazy and lie often. When I started years ago, another employee senior to me told me that the government would make you both lazy and a liar. I didn’t believe him at the time but now I completely understand.

Democrats are in the driver's seat... Trump's arrogance once again blinds him to this fact. As he said himself in 2013:

"Well, if you say who gets fired it always has to be the top," Trump said. "I mean, problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president's the leader. And he's got to get everybody in a room and he's got to lead."

He said that further down in history, "when they talk about the government shutdown, they're going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time."

Let it ride!

I don't agree with you about that. It's like the constant liberal war on everybody else - everything is racist or something similar. I think this has come to the Hiliarly "deplorables" moment when the ultimate insult meant nothing and actually became a rallying point.

The Dims have obstructed everything and have proven they have absolutley no intent to compromise. This is possibly when it becomes apparent they won the battle and lost the war. They've gone a year of full court press - everything they could to demean and discredit Trump - which considering the fool that he is, doesn't take much.

In the end they've done all that, and Trump's still standing; this is where they start smelling like something fecal and decaying and looking pretty disgusting. What they have shown is a DC void of any effectual leadership from any corner, and filled with spineless creatures with no structural commitment to any philosophy other than short term greed and self aggrandizement.

I'm not defending anything. I stick by the fact that less than 1 percent of affluent citizens serve in our armed forces. I never consider outlying circumstances when developing an opinion

That's exactly the guy I was thinking about. The primary system just doesn't set up well for centrist candidates from either side.

I'll freely admit I am disgusted at the direction of the Democratic party. You're absolutely right about Webb. Of course the same thing can be said of Republicans too. Trump ran on some far right promises that impressed the wingnuts but made the moderates cringe. What YOU need to understand is that this country, as a matter of history, has been more successful when polices and legislation are balanced.....center right to center left. Moderation works the best and has been proven so over and over again

The mind, intellect, conscious, and ideals that made Kennedy who he was in 1960 would have changed and evolved over the ensuing 58 years. You guys keep missing the whole CHANGE OVER TIME concept.

A 1950 democrat/liberal is not the same (in a lot of ways) as a 2018 democrat/liberal. Just as a 1950 repub./conservative is not the same (in a lot of ways) as a 2018 repub./conservative. Everyone has moved LEFT.

That is true. And the center continually shifts left over time. It's like two groups in a row boat rowing in opposite directions. One group gains ground and then tires and the other group makes up ground. All the while, the boat is being pushed by the current, which always flows left.
