Kahlil declares for draft

He will end up as a free agent and will be lucky to make a roster. He should have switched to oline.

Sorry, but this makes zero sense. He could come back, work with one of the best defensive coaches in the country, and get another year to improve his draft stock. I don’t understand this decision at all.

Well, the Raiders aren’t exactly the Patriots

Dumb. McKenzie got bulldozed several times per game. He even got it in the out of conference games.

Please direct me to the tape then.

You guys keep saying he got bulldozed and pushed back constantly yet have no games to direct me to.

I watched every Vols game last year except for the Vandy game. In almost every game I saw, he was stout. Especially early on in the game when he and the rest of the defense were fresh. Later on in games he might have been pushed back because of fatigue since our offense couldn't stay on the field.

But I saw a lot of good from Kahlil for most of the year. The most surprising aspect of his game was he got some good bull rushes up the middle on 3rd down that pressured the QB.

As I said many times in this thread already, you guys will be surprised by how high he's drafted. IMO 3rd round is very likely. And I'm sure once it happens, you guys will say it was his father that got him drafted.

He's definitely more highly regarded by scouts than you all would think. On top of that you have to believe his daddy is getting him good advice from some well informed people. From what I have heard his measurable are more a positive than a negative so that will help slightly.

If we use last year as an example, ~25 DTs were drafted. He's clearly behind: Bryan, Payne, Vea, Wilkes, Hurst, the 2 NC State kids, Russell, Green, Jones, and a couple others. Probably places him in the ~15th position for DT regardless of technique. I would guess a 5th round pick, but could move up with good interviews and good workouts. If a team is desperate for a 1 technique, that could move him up even more, but I would suspect no earlier than Late 3rd / early 4th round.

With that being said, baring injury, I think an extra year would only help his draft stock. Low risk high reward for returning.

Tennessee junior DI Kahlil McKenzie suffered a season-ending injury (torn pectoral muscle) just six games into the 2016 season, limiting him to just 152 defensive snaps. In that span, he earned the No. 2 ranked overall grade (78.6) among returning Power 5 interior defenders with less than 200 defensive snaps.
McKenzie also ranked No. 2 against the run among that same group of interior defenders, posting an 80. 4 run defense grade.
Though his pass-rush repertoire is limited, McKenzie picked up a bull rush pressure once every 18.7 rushes, which ranked No. 1 in the draft class. He also ranked No. 1 in pass-rush productivity from a two-point stance at 26.8.

From Pro Football Focus. Now, will you all shut up?

Interesting. I know kmac can't help the hype, but he was a REALLY hyped 5 star. I expected a much more dominant player than what we got. We'll definitely miss the depth. Can't ever have too much depth.

Good luck, kmac.

Direct yourself to the Missouri game where he got destroyed!

Also, it appears that Trenton Thompson is going to stay for his senior year at Georgia. McKenzie is leaving but Thompson is staying? That is crazy! I remember the big debate we had on VN about who was better in the summer of '14. That seems like a joke now. I can't think of even one impact play that Kahlil McKenzie ever made at Tennessee.

Still, best wishes.

5.43 yards per rushing attempt allowed is the 2nd worst average by an SEC team in the last 10 years. Only 2016 Arkansas (5.91) gave up more yards per rushing attempt in the last ten years by an SEC team

No other SEC team in the last ten years allowed 3,000+ rushing yards in a season

You guys keep citing stats. NFL scouts look at tape. Show me video where KMac gets dominated?

Cause all those bad stats could still happen even with KMac doing his job really well. Remember football is a team sport. There are 10 other guys on the field. Also given how putrid Tennessee's offense was and how many injuries the team suffered, then fatigue had a huge effect on those stats. I don't know how the numbers break down, but just going off what I saw while watching the games, I think if you broke down those defensive stats by half you would see a lot more rushing yards given up in the second half than the first half. And that was largely because of fatigue and a lack of depth.

Let’s make a paypal bet on what round you think this bum will go in. He will be lucky to get drafted period. And I’m not counting the raiders.

A bum? Why are you bad-mouthing Kahlil? What has he ever done to you?

All Kahlil has done is give his all for Tennessee. I don't get why some fans hate on our own players simply because they decide to do what is in their career's best interest.

This is a really bad decision since he isn’t ready and it’s also really bad to lose him. We really needed him.

You have been directed to view the Mizzou game... go there and watch some tape.

This young man did not show as advertised.

Quit with the first and second half crap. Did you skip the facts that were given to you? We gave up 5 something yards per carry in the first half and five something the second half as well. Our D line sucked both halves. Get over it.

Never saw that good of ability in him...

Playing in Pruitt's defense for a year would've made him better imo...

Just never seen anything that shows he can play in the league besides the measurables...

Poe was awful in collage . Had three sacks total . Only reason he got drafted so high was he absolutely crushed the combine

If I recall correctly, he graded out as the second best run stopping tackle in the ncaa after the 16 season. He hogged double teams and got exhausted like the rest of our defense after the offense kept going three and out over and over. He is better than most Vol fans give him credit for.

Edit: not sure where I recall that from but I remember being surprised by it. May not have been second but was highly rated. Also, I don't think he's ever been healthy.

Don’t hate him a bit. He just didn’t live up to expectations. If he can make 400k on the bench I don’t blame him. Your just delusional thinking he is going to go high and start somewhere.
