'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

There's no 'hate' on my end. I just came from the school of words and actions have consequences. Those a little younger than me with kids have babied and coddled kids up through this age, if not longer and has made these kids unbearable. Making excuses for these kids is why they grow up to be entitled punks. Acting like you are above it all is actually worse than holding these kids responsible for their actions. Hard for me to have the ole 'aw shucks' or 'kids will be kids' when I know 18 year old kids past and present getting shot at doing something way more important than chunking a pig hide around the football field. It's more than football. It's about life and teaching people respect. If you don't get that, then maybe you need to grow up and look at yourself in the mirror.

I understand respect and I understand actions have consequences, but singing a 'Bama song isn't exactly how respect and consequences should be used. He owes this fan base nothing. Literally nothing. If anything he needs to answer to his father, if his father even cares. But all of us, he doesn't owe us anything. The "respect" and "consequences" you speak of make is appear as if he owes us something. I'd argue he doesn't owe us anything, especially given how a large quantity of this fan base acted before during and after his signing with UGA.

I know Tennessee, Auburn, and LSU fans that have all sung Dixieland Delight and said, "that's pretty dam catchy." This is just my opinion, but sure seems like folks are looking for reasons to hate a kid over something absolutely benign.

I keep seeing this 'he doesn't owe' anybody comment. And there is some truth to that. Of course without the university, the fans, and the support his daddy got over the years, ole Cade may not be in the position to play CFB. Not to mention, the funny thing about not owing someone something. It goes both ways. I wonder how he and his family will feel if future customers in the area doesn't do business with his dad. Or if football fails, how will ole Cade feel if he needs to get a job in East Tennessee. Last I checked, Athens GA isn't exactly the hotbed of economic production. Go play for UGA all you want, but be careful igniting bridges on your way out of Tennessee. A lot of people have a lot of pride in this area. And regardless of how outsiders, tell us to feel, many East Tennesseans will support those that embrace the area and put away their wallets to those that mock it.

All depends, I’d bet momma would be putting her foot in the person’s butt that told her kid to break his neck, tear two acl’s and worse on social media. Any self respecting mom I know would, don’t go after the cubs.

Not defending what he said, but highly hypocritical of (some) on here and elsewhere who said the same thing to him last week. Again, not all. Some showed class and Cade should as well but I don’t think momma or daddy would be taking up for fans.

Also, not like he did it at a PC, it was private, he has to be smarter knowing nothing is kept private nowadays.

Can you imagine social media 25 years ago before PCorrectness was the rule?

So a few idiots that wished physical harm on this turd are the justification for being a giant pos?

Clearly I am not Mr Mays, but I appreciate the narrow-minded response. The truth is jumping on a KID for living his life and singing a song is far from bad behavior. Is it stupid? Maybe. Is it "bad behavior? Nope. Does it warrant the hate it gets from a lot of you? Not one bit. On a daily basis, I'd be willing to bet, most people on this board do things far more innapropriate than that Snapchat, and on top of that he's a high school senior, not a full grown adult.
Apologists for enemies like you make me wanna puke.

Great post.

Best thing we can all hope for is that some members of our DL remember this and a couple of them double team him and drive him straight into the ground on a couple of plays. Get him Frustrated, and get him holding. Seems he is bad about that anyways.

While it's frustrating for me to see him at UGA, there is also a part of me that sees him as a disrespectful trouble maker who is nothing more than a prima dona, and that Tennessee may be better off without him in the long run. I am hoping that this is the case and that he is locker room poison for the dawgs. Nothing would make me happier.

I'm a middle Tennessee native and live in Florida for now. Just curious what bussiness does Kevin own in Knoxville or east Tennessee?

Look up posts from tnvol72, he posted the gist of the story. Fulmer wasn’t pleased. I’ll just add Cade and his family are very religious and like I said when Pruitt was hired, he’s a vulgar redneck from Alabama. You have to recruit the room, have to be aware of the clients’ do’s and dont’s.

I don't care what Cade does, but you and other people accepted that BS about Pruitt as fact. I doubt the story about religious Cade being offended by Pruitt is true after hearing the language and seeing his actions on that video.

Been plenty of posts about his language and penalties .
Tennessee dodged a bullet in my opinion.

So you're (a figurative you) going to punish his father for his son singing a song? Not even a song that is derogatory or offensive (one comment compared it to Davis Allen Coe). A song where he says "and Tennessee too." And in 4-6 years, if he needs a job or some sort of help, you're (anther figurative you) going to hold it over his head that as a high school senior he said "and Tennessee too," in a snap chat? Wow... seems unbelievably petty and ridiculous. A weird way to live life.

Yeah that's how it goes in a small town.

Our local jewelers son got in trouble with the law and he has seen a dip in business. Why? Because it was a reflection on him as a parent. Life is not fair as they say.

I wouldn't compare what Cade did to "trouble with the law." Huge difference between illegal behavior and what Cade did. Clearly on different ends of the spectrum, but I get your point in a general, very high level, sense.

Good thing I live in NYC, I guess

Yes I just meant the fishbowl that Knoxville compares to reactions of small towns throughout the south.

I should clairfy the boy in our town has a public intoxication for being buzzed in the parking lot. The reaction you will see from people to your business though suggest you are a poor parent and likely make bad choices in your private life as well if your offspring are willing to put your family name out there in that manner. Same could be said for Cade, a knoxvillian who's family has been treated like KINGS, and have him do and say things that could go unsaid.... this is where you will get the small town reaction.

Love Brooklyn btw I stayed in crown heights for 3 months for work and grew a lot as a person.

Yea,I'm just throwing this out but I'm really starting to question pops parenting...First you let ur kid go to georgia, then we all see this social media disaster Cade has become.Yea I get it hes a college kid etc but that doesn't excuse his actions!I really wanted to see the kid rep the orange, but after the last month or two it may have been a blessing in disguise!

I never lived in Knoxville or the suburbs, so clearly something I cannot relate too. Just from my POV, seems petty, but then again in NYC, I could be walking down the street and told to "go f myself," because I brushed shoulders with someone.

If you're ever in Manhattan, feel free to give me a shout and we'll grab a beer or ten.

Yeah some places are stuck in time.

I sure will. I used to be in the wholesale jewelry business so I visited Manhatten for Diamond district to sell them packaging for their goods. I was in boxes and displays technically.

The problem with young people these days is they’re not held accountable enough for things. It’s instilled in their heads since they’re “under the legal age of 18”, they’re “just a kid”. Maybe I grew up different, but I was taught responsibility at a very young age and I disagree that just because someone is under the age of 18 that they don’t know any better or don’t know right from wrong. A teenager most certainly knows what they’re doing, stop labeling them as kids and let em grow up.

Sounds good. I'm always around unless I'm traveling for work or if it's a holiday. Always love meeting Vol fans and alumni.

That's why they learn. So they can hold themselves accountable.

I think it's hilarious how some on here claimed early on that the kid was an adult and should be allowed to go wherever he wanted without direction or criticism fro others including his parents. Now all of a sudden he's just a kid and kids do stupid things and he doesn't deserve any criticism for his profanity laced disrespect to other schools, including his hometown school and his father's alma mater. I wish he'd just go ahead and leave. He's made his bed, he can lie in it with the other flea infested dogs.

It’s not like he’s a program changing athlete. He’s just another lineman that may or may not be a starter one day.

I agree, other than the optics of it, losing a 5 star legacy in the shadows of Neyland to a rival, I don't care what he does. There are plenty of lineman just as good as cade Mays.

i think its interesting how many people get worked up over this. if he was a UT signee and he said F Uga et al we'd out him in the HOF.

Really, it doesnt matter. We're about to get a JUCO lineman. Guess what, chances are good that this JUCO seea more action on O than this kid ever will. Good luck kid, whoever you are.
