I know. I just think that after the last two duds, it has to get better.

I would've hired several other guys first, but the administration tried to kill the program. Somehow we got a coach that seems to know good football.

That's good enough for me right now.

This is ridiculous. There is hope for a change around here. Tennessee can go 2-5 if they are competing and not killing themselves with poor discipline and horrible coaching decisions.

If other teams are just better, I'll be fine with that. But I think this guy knows good football. If he can relay that to our players, good things are possible.

Considering how fast the grumor threads started and grew at an accelerated rate, anything is possible with our fanbase.

The fanbase wants to see improvement from an offense that was horrible by SEC standards and a defense that is not out of position every series. Player development and improvement is a plus and praying that the defense is taught basic fundamentals in tackling. However, this has been an issue for 25 years so we'll continue to be patient with that last request.

"IF" improvements are visible but the record remains the same or with an additional 1 or 2 games in the win column, that's a sign the program is headed in the right direction.

We gave Sgt Carter a 3 year honeymoon. A full 3 years and then some. We should have some patience no matter how year 1 turns out. We’ll know if Pruitt is the championship coach we desperately hope he is and need him to be after year 2 imo. But at a minimum, he should get the 3 year honeymoon Lyle got imo. I personally suspect we’ll much happier with the state of our program under Pruitt in short order than we ever were with Botch Jones.

I was also told I had a loser mentality last summer when I predicted 5 wins for this season.
Turns out I was a little overly optimistic.

I don't know what you were watching, but Guarantano looked as clueless against Vandy has he did SC (and he wasn't a FR, he was a RS-FR). Lady Liberty marveled at his ability to become a statue after the ball was snapped (and don't give me the horrible OL excuses; while true, he took half of his hits because he asked for them... don't be silly). If you're talking about McBride, he barely played. So, not sure what you mean by, "looked better and better as the season went along."

These coaching hires never fail to set an entirely unrealistic bar, ridiculously too high.

It's my honest opinion based upon what we all witnessed on the field this season. Couple that with what will probably be a dismal recruiting class and I don't see a realistic shot at more than five wins. That has absolutely nothing to do with the coaching staff and is in no way intended as a shot at them.

I agree, especially about the Grumors. I'm sure there are some who still think Pruitt is a smokescreen. I really can't see any possible way we go 4-8 and 0-8 again. Very few staffs in America could have pulled that off like Butch did. He had to work really hard to have gotten us to look as bad as we did this year. It was quite impressive that he had us playing even worse than we actually were. The man's got a gift, lol.B Butch just could never get out of the mid major mindset and take the additional steps to improve us and his coaching. It's like he's content with an 8-9 at best ceiling and would prefer a less stressful atmosphere. He's one of those that lets pride and stubbornness keeps him average and being nothing more than average. I don't see that being an issue with JP. Butch never fully learned that you have to recruit a differ level type of player in this conference. He was hell-bent on thinking his way would work and he found out it would not. Just by the new offers and cutting the recruits he has let's me know Pruitt gets it and knows the type players it takes to win here. Will be nice to see Players play with reckless abandon and have bad intentions when they step on the field. It's been a long time since we have been a big, fast, physical defense that makes offensive guys think twice about going over the middle and thinking about the hits waiting on them. We have been soft for way too long. I hate Ala with a passion but I gotta admit watching the style D they play and the highlight reel hits they lay give out makes me miss when we played like that. Think those days are back though.

While others are *****ing about the what if thread, i want to thank the poster for drawing out the excuse makers. Someone should make sure to bump this thread if this staff falls on their face from the beginning as some are suggesting.

What i do know is that if FCBJ were still here and started out 2-5 it would be an all out riot on here. Seems like a bunch of hypocrites to me.

If this team is 2-5 next year i will for sure be pointing out how this staff took over a program a whole helluva lot better than it was in 2012 and how the previous staff managed to avoid that kind of start.


2-5 start and 5-7 finish would be an embarrassment for this staff. Should that happen we can safely say firing Jones was probably a mistake. Maybe not as epic as Fulmer for Kiffin but for sure a mistake.

Howl and scream and curse Jones all you want, you'll still be wrong.

Anything less than 7 wins and CJP is in over his head.

Personally i hope he wins the 8 he should and manages to steal a couple more. I have no idea if they will make this happen but I will be rooting for them to do so. All this 5 win crap is utter bs

You excuse makers are a sad bunch. Or maybe you're so enamored with our new coach that you think if you set the bar ridiculously low he and his staff will look like miracle workers when they easily clear these hurdles.


I personally have no idea how good they're going to be as CJP has zero history as a head coach. And he doesn't appear to have had any type of working relationship with some of the coaches being hired. In any business start up this is a recipe for disaster that can only be navigated by the very best of the best mangers and leaders. If this staff is as good as many on here seem to think then the Big Orange will win a minimum of 8 games.

Did you watch any of SECG? Unless we cash in on some of the JUCO OL/DL, we won't compete with Auburn,GA,Bama. We will split vs SCjr and FL at best. If Locke stays Mizzou will be tough. WV...gonna need 30+ to beat them. High and mighty GA went 7-6 last year, so that's my baseline. Now granted their OL was crap like ours. They started a Frosh QB, but their defensive personnel was much better than ours will be...so those balance out.

Would much rather see Vol fans be optimistic than seeing the others who are constantly negative and would find something to complain about if we went 15-0. Give me the positivity over the ones who spend their lives drowning in misery.😉

That roster got boat raced by the worst teams in the SEC. There are warm bodies on the roster but sec calibre talent is in short supply. 0 + 0 = 0. Bring in the jucos and allow some of the holdovers to take medical scholarships or transfer down a level.
