Same here. I could not stand how he played guys out of position or the wrong ones and used that CMU offensive system. Stuck in a time warp the whole time he was here.

The catchy phrase with Jones starting out was "Butch gets it." He did not get it. He never got it and he never will. He continued to force his peewee "infallible" system throughout the entirety of his tenure here and anyone who knew anything about the SEC could see it wouldn't work if you didn't have a Josh Dobbs type talent. I'd be willing to bet if he somehow ever got another shot to coach in this league, he wouldn't change a thing. He belongs at Central Michigan.

Yep. Same dude that played JJ Watt at TE. He refuses to learn from his very obvious mistakes.

He's your classic system coach. He didn't coach to his players strengths because he didn't know how to. It's why I'm of the opinions that from a pure football standpoint, Dooley was better than Jones.

If we didn’t lose Hunter and Bray in 2011 then we would have had at least an 8-4 season. We had a top 25 defense that year.

I'm just going to take this moment to point out, again, that we almost hired Greg Schiano. He was in the AIRPORT waiting to come to Knoxville.

Sorry to keep bringing it up, it's just...what a whirlwind this has all been. Thankful for Davenport, Fulmer, and Pruitt.

Agreed. It's painful to think that as bad as Schiano would have been, Dave Doeren would have been even worse. The dude is probably going to be fired by NC State in a year or two. We were dangerously close to possibly reaching the point of no return.

Kirt didn't have to apologize at all. That's swallowing your pride in front of a very large audience.

No one in the media does that anymore. Props to him.

He didn’t say “I’m sorry.”

He said “I’m sorry but.....”

Big difference.

In this case, I think he was entitled to give some contextual insight as to why he made the comment in the first place.

Gets it.

Baker Mayfield has had his own personal issue after issue. More than Tennessee players combined.

What are all the issues?

Grabbing his junk and a misdemeanor disorderly conduct for yelling in public? Anything else I’m forgetting? I probably am

How awesome is this. They're gonna turn my mans into an azz kicking machine.

Anybody see the video of the boy talking about getting bullied? Man that is rough stuff. Feel terrible for the young man. What Byrd and some of the other players are doing by going to see him is awesome.

Planting a flag at midfield is another that comes to mind. That’s basically a double bird in itself.

What are all the Tennessee discipline issues that hurt Herby so badly?

It was about to blow up into a huge race thing. Only reason he apologized. Bogus reasoning tells the story.

I don’t require his apology so I don’t have to pretend that it’s genuine.

This is great. Never been a UFC fan until now. That kid’s video was tough to watch.

Dana White said he wants to fly him and family out to Vegas and make them his guests. Dana has always been good about that stuff. And he spares no expense when they show up.

Amazing how many have reached out to this kid.

If that’s all the “issues” Baker has had it seems his “issues” are way overblown.

Unless we’re missing something significantly worse.

LSU player did same thing at Neyland (Bird salute in endzone). Not a word.

I really don’t care what they say about us anymore. We have brought a ton of it on ourselves with some piss poor hires. I like being hated. Can’t wait until we are hated for winning again. Right now we are just a huge target because our fans are the most passionate in the nation. Pretty easy to get a discussion or clicks going just by saying something negative about our team.

I'm not surprised that a national guy who apologized to a Vol is getting roasted on VN for not having the right reasons to be sorry or not being contrite enough.

Making excuses is an attempt to deflect blame and diminish the wrong.

Apologize for the wrong and leave out the excuse. He did one, but not the other.
