I didn’t watch it. Never really been into it.

But at the same time there’s nothing worse than a bunch of Peyton fanboys.

I don't watch the heisman show because I don't care who wins. It has no impact on my life and I have better things to do.

DBs as good as Woodson aren’t even involved in half of the defensive plays because nobody throws in their direction. That heisman year was an odd choice, but Peyton seemed to do just fine without a trophy. So did Woodson by the way.

Where does Heisman say valuable? I agree. But it goes out to the most oustanding player. And Charles Woodson was pretty damn outstanding.

You trying to diminish Woodson as a player is a really silly argument when he's a HOF player.

Valuable, outstanding, tomato, tomahto. I think the point is that we are looking for the best player. I judge best player by who does the most to help their team win games. In baseball sabermetrics have turned that into a science. The MVP in baseball SHOULD be the guy that brings the most Win Shares. I do not believe that football can be broken down into Win Shares as easily as baseball can of course, but you cannot tell me that a great QB like Manning does not do more to help his team win than anything that can be done from the DB position. This, to me, makes Manning the best player. Looks how the Colts did the year he didn't play. You think any NFL team would ever miss Woodson's production that much. Of course not. Best means contributes most to team success to me.

I freely acknowledge this, but it's still fun to bust Michigan fans' chops about this.

They're so sensitive about it. I circulated the Peyton "Charles Woodson wants my balls" meme a couple years ago when it came out and some of them still won't speak to me.

Things worked out just fine for Manning… He is very wealthy and an icon

Yes, but Tennessee is owed a Heisman. Not a single person complained that Shuler deserved to beat out Charlie Ward in 1993. I won't even argue that Majors deserved it. Jim Brown was a better football player that year. But Manning was genuinely robbed.

Nothing makes Tennessee fans look dumber than complaining about how Peyton got screwed over 20 years ago.

Both were great candidates and Woodson's team was undefeated. Hence he won.

It's not a team award. It's an individual award. The award is so biased Tennessee will never have a player win it.

Do you think Florida fans complain about Rex Grossman getting screwed over in 2001 to Eric Crouch?

Woddson had seven interceptions that year and was the best cover cornerback in the country for an undedeated team. You could make a case for either guy. Manning losing to Florida really hurt his chances.

This !

Ever notice that Carl Pickens was on a serious contender for Heisman yet he played well on defense and offense. Many great defensive player in college football each season yet only once has a defensive player been seriously considered. And it was the one time to screw Manning over
That is not circumstancial

TN players have finished 2nd to the LAST winner from the Ivy League, the ONLY primarily defensive player, a basketball player that wasn't drafted by the NFL, and a player whose team had the WORST record of any HT recipient.

It’s become a meaningless joke of an award. Haven’t watched a Heisman award presentation in at least 15 years

And odds are if Peyton hadn’t laid an egg against Florida that year he would have won it.

Woodson supposedly won not solely due to his defensive play, but because he was this great 2-way player, this great jack of all trades player. Yet, he only had 11 receptions and 15 yards rushing on offense.....and only averaged 8 yards per punt return. Nothing special to say the least.

He was the same thing at Michigan that he was in the NFL....a really good corner. Still, he had 7 interceptions for 7 return yards, no forced or recovered fumbles, no defensive touchdowns. OTOH, Peyton was the best player at the most important position (QB) in the country for an 11-win team, an SEC championship team.....3,800 yards and 36 td passes for the #7 team in the country....but he never had a chance in the end.

It was clearly political to anyone paying attention. ESPN and other national media pretty much got the ball rolling and campaigned for Woodson and all it took to get the movement to a fever pitch was 1 very good game vs Ohio State. Fix was in. Nothing like that had ever happened before and nothing like that has happened since.

I was at the Heisman dinner in New York in 2014 and Billy Cannon himself told me I was right about Peyton getting it stole from him and he said F them as well. And he is a Tiger. It only makes you look dumb to think Woodson deserved it instead. Will take Billy's opinion over yours.

So in that instance being undefeated meant something. Now..... finishing third in your conference with a loss to the runner up in the conference championship gets you into the national championship tournament.

My how times have changed.

Oh and Champ Bailey had better overall numbers than Woodson.

Oh, and I am watching Perry Mason.

I have made that point many times over the years. You can't argue that fact and Bailey was never mentioned. What about Carl Pickens? It was an anti-Peyton vote throughout the north and mid west. On top of the fact that Majors lost to a guy on a losing team...so the undefeated Woodson argument is lost right there.

Are you 12? Woodson wasn’t even on the Heisman radar until the 8 th or 9th game. Peyton did nothing to lose the award! It was as big a farce since majors lost it!

💀👽😡
