I'm trying to convince myself to like the Steele hire, because it certainly seems like that will be the case. And, I don't have the energy for another riot.

Auburn fans do love Steele. My coworker is freaking out at the thought of him leaving Auburn. Obviously there's no doubt his head coaching experience scares me, but I'm sure you can learn a thing or two in the 15 years since he's been a head coach.

Research his behavior in stresful situations and first hand accounts.

I will never make fun of any type of mental disorder. It is noted though this job will be very stressful. There are reports from both Clemson and LSU of meltdowns including some even needing IV treatment to stablize his behavior.

Haslam is probably laughing his butt off right now that Fulmer is going to hire Steele- we will all be clammoring for him to come back. How are no boosters or anyone with influence telling Fulmer not to do this?!

Where is the one from LSU mentioned?

It was my understanding he hadn't had any issues in a long period of time.

JAV on Tucker...

”Top 10 defenses in the NFL except with Chicago. Who has had success there in the last 10 years? He's widely considered the best DB coach in college football. He's served as an interim HC in the NFL, Associate HC in college, has UGA with the 4th ranked D this year,7th last year. He's calling the plays not Smart. Elite recruits will love the hire, especially defensive players. I have no clue how to pull up old posts, I think he was on a list somewhere that I made on here before Butch was fired.”

But Kevin Steele yells at kids real good and his press conferences can be used as an alternative to Ambien.

I guess Kingston was right- Tee has been blackballed for whatever reason- and Haslam being out of the way hasn't changed it???? He would be a far better choice than Steele!

Is Haslam out of the picture? It would surprise most on VN, but he donates $50 mil annually to the school. That is what I was told, does anyone else think that figure is correct and I doubt he will ever be out of the picture.

"I'm not trying to sell anybody, but it sounds like Steele"

It was my understanding he hadn't had any issues in a long period of time.

"I knew that several times during his tenure that (Steele) did have to have IVs after the game," he said. "He was so nerve-wracked before a game that he'd forget to eat, or puke it up when he did. More than once I did hear a rumor, from dubious sources, mind you, that Steele was calling plays that no one on defense knew."

That could suggest some health problems that go beyond just nerves, something that could also be overcome in the interim. It's also worth pointing out that in that very same season, LSU allowed 533 yards to the same West Virginia team, albeit in a 47-21 win. The Mountaineers also picked up 28 first downs in the game, compared to 31 against Steele's Clemson defense.

Still, if we defined every coach by his worst moment, there wouldn't be that many still employed. Texas A&M damn sure wouldn't be so excited to be acquiring the same coordinator that allowed more than 260 rushing yards four times last season, and 500 or more total yards twice.

I'm really starting to think Fulmer just wants to run this program from the AD spot. Makes sense with the candidate choices too.

Miles - Too much experience. Wants to run the team.

Venables/Morris - Too qualified, wants a real HC spot.

Steele/Tucker - Glorified coordinators, assistant head coaches. Phil's an offensive guy, albeit not a great one, so he's getting someone to run the defense.

Make no mistake, Phil is running this team going forward.

This is exactly what was alluded to on SiriusXM this morning!

I dare anyone on this board right now to justify how Steele will be in any way a good hire for this program and what this program needs to rise back up out of the ditch.

Show me in any way how this hire will improve recruiting and get us the upgraded talent needed to compete in the SEC.

Show me how this hire in any way will improve the ability for us to develop the current and future talent on this roster.

.................................................?

If the Great Pumpkin hires this guy, he should be fired by the end of the week.
