There is always the stigma that your only good DC because of Saban at Bama so some want to branch out. Pruitt branched out and proved himself. Tucker likely wanted to do the same and possibly he likes smart better. Maybe smart is who brought him back to Bama. Never really know.

I don't know what to think of Tucker. It did seem like Bama secondary improved once he got there then he does call UGA defense. He has lots of NFL experience

I could get behind Tucker if he’s the guy. No question. I just wouldn’t make him the guy, if it was up to me.

He would need a killer OC, though. We need a lot of help there.

The VQ report said we’re offering at least 5/25mil

If I’m fulmer i would hire morris and pay him 4.5 (he makes 2 at SMU) and then pay Mel Tucker 1.5 for DC (he makes 800k at uga).

That’s 6mil for HC and DC. Aka nothing in SEC football pay terms.

I am quickly losing the hope I had when Fulmer was hired.

Bass when a hire is finally made...

Tucker would be solid hire...

"Following one of the worst defensive seasons in Bears' history in 2013, Tucker was criticized by the media.[9] As a result, the team fired two of Tucker's assistant coaches, linebackers coach Tim Tibesar and defensive line coach Mike Phair.[10] The Bears replaced them with Paul Pasqualoni as defensive line coach and Reggie Herring as linebackers coach.[11]

On January 20, 2015, following another record-setting low defensive season for the Bears, Tucker was replaced by former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio under new head coach John Fox"

I'm sure Tucker will offered get a nice bump to stay at Georgia. He's not taking a lateral job.

None of these interviews - Steele, Venables, or Tucker - are for the DC jobs.

Just hope he doesn't pick Steele. I'd prefer Venables but Tucker would probably be fine. Either one needs a good Offensive staff

Also, it seems clear CPF doesn't see Tee as ready for the job. I would be really interested to know why. Wonder if he has some information on that or if he is just going on assumptions. Tee is the OC for the Pac 12 champions....?

And suddenly the Bears became an amazing football team.

No idea who this is but saw someone else post on VQ that Steele isn't going to Broyles award ceremony.

In New York tonight, former Vol Peyton Manning will be official inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Prior to tonight's event, the Tennessee brass is busy in their search for a new football coach. Sources confirm to Volquest.com the report from Football Scoop that Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker is scheduled to meet with Tennessee officials in New York. Chancellor Dr. Davenport and many other key officials are in New York as well. Tucker and Vol AD Phillip Fulmer visited in Georgia on Sunday before Fulmer headed to Dallas to visit with SMU's Chad Morris.

There is also talk that Tennessee may be having some kind of follow up discussion with Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele. Steele and Fulmer met Sunday morning in Georgia. Steele is a finalist for the Broyles Award. The Broyles Award ceremony is at lunchtime today in Little Rock, Arkansas. It will be interesting to see how many of the finalists are at the event including Steele.

Sources tell Volquest that follow up talks with Tucker and Steele do not mean that they are the finalists for the job as Fulmer has talked to a number of coaches since Saturday morning either by phone or face to face. Fulmer has been in New York since Monday where there are hundreds of coaches milling about as a part of the College Football Hall of Fame induction event.

No matter who the hire is, I'm sticking with the Vols. I have and have had no faith in Fulmer to run an AD. I think he'll be myopic with an eye towards football. I'm also nervous about some of the comments we've seen reporters state over the last day or two about how active Phil is going to be with the football program. I can't imagine coaches want a former national champion coach peering over their shoulders either questioning their methods or making suggestions. You can look at Florida as an example. Clearly McElwain was not please with Spurrier's presence.

I think going the D Coordinator route for a head coach is a mistake, but i'm not surprised as almost every head coach hire is reactionary from the last head coach. It seems to me that great offensive minds are rarer than defensive minds. I still think the best choice among the current contenders is Chad Morris with a veteran DC. We could probably get both of those for around 4.5 -5 million a year.

If we're going to hire a defensive head coach, what OCs are out there that would get you excited? Do we think Canada would leave LSU? Jeff Scott? Mark Helfrich?

I wonder if Tucker would consider Dell Mcgee for OC, if he thinks he is ready. #1 recruiter in the country this year.

I'm willing to hang on and be idle for a great coach. But if we're just gonna hire a up and comer then i'm ready for it to be over with.
