Like Steele, I don't understand why Tucker would even be a candidate for head coach
Tucker has some upside as a recruiter and I think the players would respond to him well. I’m more confident in him assembling a staff than I am in Steele as well.

Steele seems really pitiful from what I’ve read about him. Not the kind of guy any program needs leading it.

Its so weird to hear so many names at play...is he talking to them and saying "yeah maybe...Ill call you back." Then talking to 3 or 4 more and saying the same thing? Interview, offer or move on. If I were one of these top 5 in the hunt and was getting strung along I would say screw it.

That may be one more reason we wind up with Steele.

I don't remember Currie's exact words, but he said that it would be an exaustive search, which wasn't true. He went from one candidate to another, giving each an offer.

Now, we have Fulmer doing what he said. I don't see this as a negative. I like that he is picking the brains of this year's successful coordinators.

I think he believes a lot of coaches are just wannabe's, if they haven't proved it in the SEC or against the top SEC teams (Clemson/Fla St). I can't disagree with that logic.

Now, if the choice is Steele, I take it all back, but his overall reasoning appears logical to me.

The NFL and college are so different I can't get caught up on NFL rankings. The fact he coached in the NFL as long as he did at his age says something. Saban thought enough of him to bring him back to Bama and Smart enough to make him his first DC.

Saban brings everybody in — even Dooley and Sunseri. If Saban has made him a coordinator, I’d be more impressed.

I mean obviously if the choice is Steele or Tucker then its Tucker easily. But why the heck would that be the options?

Agreed. That being said, I’ll support Tucker if he’s the guy. I do think it’s a lot better than Steele. I’m just not sold on his resume at this point. He’s been around big-time football, but it’s not clear to me where he ever excelled at it.

Agreed. I honesty don't know on the recruiting and program building side.

But from a game day, x and os, building game plans standpoint this would likely be a significant upgrade.

Tucker was the guy and Smart got him to go to UGA with him when he could have retained Pruitt. Pruitt then ended up back at Bama. Smart chose Tucker over Pruitt.

I'm sorry, Mel Tucker would be an underwhelming hire. Especially with Venables, Miles, Leach, and Morris apparently waiting on an offer.

Yall dont understand how much this legitimately pisses me the F off. IDGAF how great Fulmer was... Why should any Tennessee fan support a program that hires Steele or Morris over Mike Leach?

Completely embarrassing and pathetic

Considering the way our fanbase obsesses over every little thing the HC says and does, Leach would certainly make for some interesting conversation around here. That could be a good thing or a bad thing. I do think he would win though, so that would help a lot.

And Tucker apparently chose to hitch his wagon to Kirby over Saban. That’s reason enough to make you question if he knows what he’s doing. (Obviously worked out OK if he gets this job now, though.)

Morris has had two interviews also

Who is the mystery candidate?

I think that's just VQ's way of covering their ass if Phil hires someone they aren't talking about. "As we reported, Fulmer had met with a mystery candidate..."

I didn't know much about him but Tucker's resume is pretty impressive, other than a few years as D-Coordinator with a bad Bears team

I don't care if the coach is an oompa loompa or a smurf.... give me the one that is going to win the most football games. Period. End of story. F$%*!!!!!!
