To his current employer it would be. Doing that without telling them would be like going nuclear. No way he is going to burn that bridge. If he did it at all he would need to tell them in advance and the execs would then have to agree to let him do it. At which point ESPN would, assuredly, break the news before he even had the chance.

There is a very succinct method in which these things are done. The university puts out an announcement that said coach has been hired (preferably as they tend to leak out immediately before the U has the chance to put out the announcement) and then a press conference is held a day or two later to formally introduce new said coach.

To have some sort of announcement outside of that especially on MNF is nonsensical.
Glad someone is living in reality

No insider information but I do have a pretty awesome bluetick (sorry just woke up from a nap and she was laying on top of me. Shes too cute right now not to share.)

Gruden will wear a non-orange tie for the duration of the game. As soon as the game is over, they'll toss over to Gruden and we'll see him in an orange tie and he simply announces that he is leaving MNF. That's it, nothing else.

Gruden to the hill.

Soon.

But that would be the appropriate place to announce he is leaving MNF, wouldn't you agree?

Exactly... Announcing that he will be coaching the Tennessee Volunteers is one thing, but announcing that he will be leaving MNF is completely believable and normal.

He's not gonna announce it on MNF... That's just asinine.

Ordinarily, yes.......

But if the decision was JUST made today, he'd have time to tell his bosses at ESPN and then announce it tonight.

It would kinda burn a bridge if he knew he was leaving and didn't tell them and for them to find out later from another source.

Absurd argument, IMO. No reason Gruden couldn't notify ESPN prior to tonight's broadcast and ESPN keeping a lid on it. They probably wouldn't want to burn bridges with Gruden, either. They may have already agreed he's to step down because of layoffs.
