Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVI

I can't see Leach being someone that would bow to Currie/Haslam

I can't see his offense, tweaked or not, working very long in the SEC.

I really wish Atlanta would give us a ray of hope.

These DC's in the SEC are the real deal. Went outside and posted awhile ago about Leach and got flamed. Kiffin described how the SEC was a different animal awhile back. I predict the same ole cyclic process, 4-5 yrs. and out and not winning even the east. Leach may come for the money but he'll tire of this chit fast.

Could you set this to a secular tune instead? This feels sacrilegious to me and seems inappropriate. Any coach we are talking about, including Gruden, should not be compared to our Savior. I know you do this in jest, but it is uncomfortable to me and some others I imagine. Thanks!

Look, you can leave this process as bitter as you want. A lot of good things were accomplished during this time (by the way, it's not over until somebody stands on the podium). UT fans stood up against a well funded and powerful opponent and won! We brought the dysfunctional operations of the athletic department to light and stopped a horrible hire. I'm proud to be a Vol fan.

I'll leave this coaching search --- no matter how it ends --- like I always do; tired but hopeful for improvement. But I won't give up on my team or school. I won't carry the bitterness of this search with me. If you choose to do that, I feel sorry for you.

I didn't say anything about any of what you just said about giving up on my team or school

you stated the reasons why Mike Leach needed to become our new coach and I stated why I think he doesn't

all the other has no relevance to the before stated conversation

I'm going to bed. Been burning the candle at both ends and the middle too.

All I can say is that regardless of who is or isn't fighting above us, the common fans should continue to insist, in every possible medium, that the Haslam influence be eradicated from our university.

Fire Currie First.

Edit: yes, I want to wake up to news that Mike Leach got a nice fat raise at Wazzu.

Me too, nothing against him I just think it's a weak hire based on what we could get. If folks think Currie and Haslam are working in UT's interest they are blind as bats.

That's a 604 lifetime average. Nothing that says great hire, and going into the SEC it looks average. If we was so hot why hasn't some big school went after him. He finally had some good teams his last 3-4 years at Texas Tech and goes to Wash St. Many jobs out there and we don't look at him until Currie has went to everybody and their mother. But some like him because he scores against the easy competition. Not saying he can't coach but this is not a home run hire, it isn't even a double in my opinion. We should do better, FIRE CURRIE and do not let him make this hire.

At Wasu and TT that would be like him doing that with Vandy in SeC. Let that sink in. It's not like he was at Oklahoma or UsC.
Yes fire Currie oust Haslam let Leach stay though. Don't short him in asst money. I honestly think the other side negotiated this offer.

So u think we could get better than FL did? How many final four power 5 coaches have left for other teams lately?

If the search had of been done better we could looked at many coaches. The went for Schiano 2 weeks ago and didn't do much of nothing else until that blew up. This isn't about Leach, I have my reservation but I hope whoever we get wins. And ask yourself if he was all that in Currie's mind why didn't he go after him a long time ago. We went through a bizarre list of candidates, and that is because they tried to cram Schiano. That's why the process has been bad, they know the adminstation is bonkers.

He does make me laugh.

I'm not sold that this happens. This war has been going on publicly on VN for over a month. This program has been burnt to the ground in the last week and is coming off it's worst season in history.

Why stop when you're about to bayonet your enemy in the heart? I'm confused and need some clarity. This will need spelled out to me in black and white, no cloak and dagger sh**.

Leach does not fit the bill.☠️“Highest Integrity and Character”:pirate:

Because i think the other party pushed back and demanded a better coaching candidate. This is not a Haslam hire at all. The Schiano **** show has already happened but I think if we get Leach it's a win and Currie will be fired soon after

I looked up his stats this year. WSU is #1 in the P12 in passing but dead last in rushing. That absolutely will not cut it in the SEC. You cannot be a one dimensional team and win at a high level in the SEC now.

I think Leach would do ok here. He wont beat Georgia or Alabama. He will beat Florida some but thats about it. Seems like some are thinking Leach is this coaching stud and I just dont see it. Also, I dont believe he will be our coach either.

Did I say that? But it looks like it may still end well. Currie will still be let go

I've enjoyed this thread, but to anyone who doesn't consider Leach a great candidate is foolish. He has taken bad programs to high levels. Right now, Tennessee is a bad program (4-8 is not good). With the recruiting power and resources, he can do well.

Now, I will also agree that the Currie/Haslam influence needs to be eradicated. I don't think the power struggle stops if Leach is hired. But it's a lot easier to live with that than any of Schiano/Doeren/etc options they've tried to force.

If there is one positive, Leach is not a weak coach. He does not seem the type to take ish from people, especially Haslam. I'm optimistic that we can lose the battle and still win the war. To me this seems like a pyrrhic victory - the damage to Currie and Haslam has been done and I'm not sure anything can save Currie at this point. I hope I'm right about that.

I’m on record saying that I don’t mind Leach and that’s great that a certain percentage of Florida fans are nervous. As I stated if Leach was hired by a new AD or even Fulmer I’d accept it.

What I don’t accept is Currie doing the hiring which is why many of us are still in this thread because we understand it’s bigger than just a coach.

Either way, I, just like many others will have to decide if we want to support this AD if this hire goes through and Currie keeps his job.

I'm not. I'm still studying his background. He chose to create a dilemma at K.State with Frank Martin so he could actually gain some experience in hiring and firing a coach. Frank according to the writer hadn't done anything to deserve being fired except defend himself. He went on to do well at S.C. taking them to the final 4 last year. Currie was here on the Fulmer firing. I can assure anyone that he is a Haslam yes man and that's the way ball is gonna be played at UT for years to come. Bama laid down the blueprint and at least OSU followed suit with the Meyer hire. Everybody knows...you get what you pay for. The larger the % is that boycotts Neyland the more impact it's gonna have. You have folks on this very forum excited over Leach. I don't see a title associated with the name. No conference title at all. We're below accepting mediocracy at this stage. I do not care for Les Miles but hell he's won titles so I'd rather have him plus he knows how the SEC works. I've said plenty...it is what it is.

Just got back for a few minutes.
Sorry if already posted RE: Leach.
When I left Errbody freaking out about Leach or loving Leach.

SEC Ntwk stream... "Tennessee and Leach have not negotiated and deal is not imminent, source tells ESPN."

TIFWIW

About an hour and half late but love the effort!

Give me Kiffin everyday over Leach. Its plain as day that UT is not committed to winning. Proof ? All the coaches Haslam and Currie have went after , not 1 is worth a d@*n. Except Gundy and Currie knew he wasnt leaving OK St. Its pathetic what is going on right now. As long as Haslam is alive you can kiss Tenn football goodbye. Hiring Leach is a game or 2 better than what they just fired. Surely Leach will not be signed off on

I didn't say Leach 'needed' to become our coach. I pointed out a few ways he would make the fan experience more fun. He's a vast improvement over the previous options. The fans made that improvement possible.

I'm a Gruden supporter to the core. I posted in the very first Gruden thread in 2012 and kicked off one of the later threads that year. As soon as the 2017 Gruden threads cranked up, I was right back in the game. I always knew Gruden could be a game changer for our school. But circumstances beyond our control stopped it in 2012 and it looks ominous this year. The fact our boosters and admin stand in the way of the best interests of the football program is infuriating.

I promised to hang in here to the end and that's what I'll do. I've sent legislators and UT leaders emails and created Facebook and Twitter posts that were shared by 100's of people. I'll keep doing it until the fight is finished.

Make no mistake; I'm engaged and committed. That doesn't mean I can't start looking for positives in possible hires. I will be here and fully committed to the next coach and his players.
