Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIV

I agree with your post, but the problem I see is while we are committing to this long term pressure to have Currie removed, he will in the mean time saddles us with a lower tier coach and let the one real opportunity to land Gruden slip through our hands..

How do we handle this?

VN might need to rise up and come together again until These clowns gives the fans a coach that we all can agree on. I dont know how many times I have said it , I just dont think they are committed to winning any longer. Just committed to taking the fans money and giving us false hope.
They have been use to hiring these jokes of a coach and the fans set back and takes what they give us and thats exactly what they were doing this time. Isnt it funny that Schianos name only came up with 1 school and that was Tn. Only at Tenn do they hire the sh1ttest coaches. One would think that they are worried about who to hire right now because they fear of another backlash like Sunday.

Atlanta Vol said in his post earlier that he was leaked the information from someone within OSU's AD. They texted him saying your guys are up here signing Schiano (something like that). Currie came close. Very, Very, Very close to pulling this off.

Tbo. That don’t make sense. I thought they met somewhere else. I also heard he was still in Knoxville when the assistant leaked.

This all day. And you can tell that the moral uprightness is listing badly from the number of people who seem to want to hire Bobby Petrino, Lane Kiffin and Art Briles. All three should be avoided like nuclear fallout. One even crapped all over us and left us holding a bag full of NCAA violations, and half our fan base is now saying, "Thank you, sir! May I have another?" Hire any one of those three with tacit approval from the fan base and we'll be rightfully called out as utter hypocrites and lose all claim to the moral high ground.

For the love of God, don't give up the moral high ground now! It's pretty much the only thing we have left as a fan base, even if it's not being acknowledged by the national media right now. In time, I think the outside world will look more highly on what the fan base has done here, once the initial shock and the CAA backside-covering and everything else has dissipated...unless we turn around and go hire one of those three clowns!

And, people want more of this...... SMDH.

Do it the right way and prove to the rest of the damn country that it's possible to do it the RIGHT way.

Maybe then others will realize you don't have to cheat to get ahead!

**** Haslam! His problem is he wants to run UT just like a business. He wants to save money on the hire and will not pay what a good coach would need and does not want to give the coach the freedom and power over the football team and staff. I guess Gruden is probably out and hell I wouldn't blame him at this point.

I'm thinking that he sells more beer and cigarettes if TN loses than if TN wins. It's about making $$$ for him.

Well ignore the thread dumbass. It's not rocket surgery. Ignore thread button. The thread disappears just like being deleted.

I can't believe how stupid this is.

How cute. Your vocabulary matches your common sense if you think there’s a snowballs chance in hell that Gruden is coming. Especially after this mess. I am not a rich man. But I am a betting man. I make about 75K a year. I would bet you 76K tomorrow that Gruden will not be the coach.

Ok ok that’s a stretch. But seriously I’m a betting man. I would bet a few K. If your serious and so sure please PM me. We can find a honest member on the board as the money holder.

Bull. This whole thing that went down with Schiano had absolutely nothing to do with his past. The truth is that Tennessee fans didn't want him because we felt as though he was not a good enough of a coach to coach Tennessee. And that is probably true. That is why fans revolted. We were angry because it wasn't Gruden, Petersen, Patterson, etc. I have no problem saying, "We don't think GS is good enough of a coach for Tennessee," but to make all of this about an issue that you and I have absolutely no clue about and every court/lawyer/person involved has given passing remarks to GS in regards to this issue is shameful. Let's not make ourselves out to be heroes on some moral high ground when all it really was was that we wanted a better coach.

Tone deaf response.

JC, is that you?

The bottom line is if we didn't have idiots running things we could attract many good people. Heck I don't even think Currie went after anybody, he played the Gruden side with Haslams blessing all the while doing a end around. Until UT rids itself of Currie and then tells Haslam we are running our own show things won't change for the better. The time for action is now, while the iron is hot is for any and all that are in any kind of position to make the changes needed must go full bore NOW. The fans are behind you. Pressure has to be put on the University to FIRE CURRIE and to tell Haslam the University will make it's own calls. I guarantee the support across the state would grow and so would the donations.

You are in the GRUDEN thread. You will prolly see him mentioned. Just sayin

I’m fine with him being mentioned. I’d love to see him trot out at a presser decked in orange tomorrow. I just also know it’s not happening. You guys do to. Your all smarter than that. Your just holding on so tight. I’d like a million and Saban as well. We can all dream. I’m just saying let’s look toward what can realistically pull us out of this. Come on guys.

As they said on the MidDay 180 on 104.5 The Zone today, Fulmer is going to have to be front and center with this search from now until we get someone hired. He is probably the only one with any credibility at this point. Currie (pending he still has the authority) is going to have to swallow his pride and ask PF for help...and I mean ASAP!!

Hyams said the same thing this afternoon. PF needs to be involved. Phil has had NO input on this coaching search so far.

Ok. We’ll talk in 5 years. I desperately hope I’m wrong but UT is viewed as a volatile and irrelevant program right now by everyone that’s not a UT fan. This coaching search is not gonna end the way any of us want it to and it’s gonna fall further into the depths of irrelevance. Get ready.
Maybe my spirit is just shattered right now but I’m looking at this from a national level and not a passionate fan level.

Keep the faith. First thing is to fix AD. No one that we want will come here without knowing that there’s some stability in that dept. Currie is dead man walking.

Secondly, any HC worth their salt knows what the potential is here. More and more we’re understanding why we could only get Butch. We get the AD fixed and we will get an excellent coach.

I don't know who we could get. You don't even know if you could get him. Have you not seen his tweets laughing and mocking us?

I'd take Les Miles before Lane Kiffin. All. Day. Long. And I don't want Les Miles.

Les Miles. I think he’s LSU’s Fulmer. He was a great coach, won a nat, and was the man of LSU for like ever. But he got old and a little complacent and they wanted new blood. They eventually hired Cookie Monster, but they doing ok. So their end isnt 10 years of suck like ours, but I think the comparison is pretty close.

Would you take back Phil? If you say, yes, then I think Les would be a good choice. Maybe it would stabilize things from a older, experienced coach side of things.

I just know some of the folks saying that there would be names mentioned as smoke screens this week and I'm still holding on to a glimmer of hope. Gruden til it ain't.....

Why is everyone throwing out other coach's names? I still want Gruden and don't understand why we are lowering our standards because everything went to hell. to me he is just as attainable as anyone else at this point.

Unfortunately if Currie was gonna get the ax, it would’ve already happened. Hubbs reporting he could be in Dallas currently.

Don’t see him resigning either. Hope Atlanta and company make something happen rather quickly.

Not disagreeing but when did Miles say he’d take it?

I also read on the forum somewhere today, it was a recap of the Knoxville Quarterback Club that Hyams replaced Currie as the speaker. It was mentioned in that recap that Miles has reached out to UT.
