People need to quit with the Kiffin noise. It's just click bait sports journalism fodder. He's a great click driver for those lazy hacks.
If you think Schiano damaged the brand, trotting out Kiffin would iceberg the Titanic. It would fracture the fanbase and send it to the icy depths of the northern Atlantic. And I'm not sure there'd be enough submersibles in James Cameron's toy chest to bring it back up. Too many hate him.
I don't know. I think we're at an interesting crossroads here, where if hiring him back could ever happen it's right now.
From a PR standpoint, it would be rocky for a while. But we're already getting trashed left and right. No matter who we announce at this point it's going to be spun to make us look bad.
I think he's the safest and best football hire we could make at this point. As crazy as that sounds. Really great coaches are going to find one of the million reasons not to come here right now. Kiffin will lean right into our crazy and appreciate us for it.
He would walk in and apologize and we would buy back in. Because he's one of those coaches you hate until he's wearing your colors. He would likely call out Saban, Mullen, Smart and Muschamp on the spot and make clear to the nation that our plan is to wipe the floor with them annually.
The players loved him and he would inject confidence back in us all again.
I get that many disagree. That's fine. Feel free.
I don't think it will happen. But I do think it should if we're serious about winning football games. Even Johnny Majors said he thinks he would win here if given another shot.
But this is just one Vol fans opinion.
