The world can say what they want to about us. When I heard the Schiano news my 1st thought was how can we stop this from happening. And we did. Screw everyone else.

Throw a lot of money at Frost and Taggart. A lot.

Next you call Cut.

After that, Tee Martin.

Frost has committed to Nebraska. He ain't budging. Taggart is waiting for FSU. He'd use us just like Mullen did.

Listen, I love Cut and would take him in a heartbeat. But if he's not okay with Tee coming in as OC then it's a tough sell. And he wouldn't be okay with it - forcing a staff on him was the reason he didn't take the job in 2010. Cut wouldn't be able to recruit well enough because I don't think recruits would believe he'd be here their 4 full years.

Tee is the guy. They should get it done.

Agree. We could have Tee tomorrow. Fire Currie and get Tee in here ASAP.

Schiano's was out there before they even tried to hire him, not just the PSU stuff, but his big of an add he is. It was posted on this board. Venables has been a DC for 18 years and never heard a negative word about him.

AD malpractice

We had that Washington Post article on here and discussing it last week. I posted it after someone mentioned the scandal. I had no idea he was involved. I entered his name in google and included Penn St and it was literally the first thing that popped up. John Currie has to be the dumbest guy alive.

Let’s ride with BV. Should have gone that route anyway based on his coaching career alone.

You said it was a dollar-for-dollar deduction (which I read as reduction — my bad) and very beneficial to him and how the 1% pay less taxes. It sounded like you were saying that the giving is economically neutral to Haslam, which would be very wrong. If that’s not what you were saying, then maybe I just misread.

But first of all, charitable contribution deductions are capped, so it’s not necessarily dollar-for-dollar, depending on amount.

Second, it is a deduction, not a credit, so below the cap it is “dollar-for-dollar” only to the extent that it reduces your taxable income dollar-for-dollar. It doesn’t reduce your taxes dollar-for-dollar.

Charitable giving isn’t much of a tax strategy. Donations are just effectively partially subsidized.

That’s the problem. We aren’t willing to pay on the front end. Even though we ended spending more in the long term. Butch Jones made $29m. $6m per year.

We are scared to do what it takes.

We were gonna hire a $3m coach yesterday after being the most profitable program in the f’N country.

I wonder if Stephen Smith would endorse Mike McCreary as head coach at his Alma mater

I was out shopping for lacrosse stuff with my daughter's when I saw the Wolken stuff about it being Schiano. I called my wife and said if they go through with this I will never watch a game again. I was so happy when I saw people fighting back.

Is it confirmed that Schiano's salary was $3 million/year?

Get Mike Leach he doesn’t give two sh!ts.

McElroy lakes about Leach this morning. Said he'd be a coach that could handle the Tennessee fan base without a doubt. Said he didn't think his offense would work in the SEC tho. I'd have to presume McElroy knows what he's talking about when it comes to what it takes to win in the sec...

I've wanted Venables from the start. Doubt we can get a sitting coach at this point. Do it please.

I started talking about him as soon as we lost to UF and UGA started rolling under Kirby.

He's a top-notch recruiter and a great DC. Would be an excellent hire at this juncture.

i don't think Tee is ready to be an SEC head coach right now. He's only been a coordinator for a few years. (2?) I've really only seen him prove himself as a recruiter. I understand the good vibes that come from hiring a Tennessee man, but those vibes will rot as soon as he starts losing games. I think we look to Taggert and Brohm first. If those fall through, let's go after Venables. The man has led excellent defenses at multiple schools over a decade. If Tee wants to come and be his OC, then great, bring him on board.

It pains me to know that UT would turn down Leach based on a perceived dissonance about UT's culture. The man wins games, the press conference, and his teams will score. Give him an SEC level DC and let's ride. We may not win 11 games every year, but we sure as hell won't get punked by Vandy and Kentucky.

What are you arguing here? Hubbs owned info from Haslam, and was not completely truthful in the way he presented it to us, listing Schiano last in a list a few days ago. He’s balancing journalism, business, and access. He’s carrying water man no other way to interpret it. It’s ok if you really like him. I like the guy. He’s in a tough spot. So who put him in that position? Maybe that guy is a problem, and can free Hubbs to engage in unfettered journalism

He has been mentioning Schiano since the Georgia game.

I’m not sure what you are arguing. Hubbs has been on point this whole search. The guy is money as always.
