Unpopular opinion coming, but he was toward the top of my board in 2012. I think he's a pretty good coach, and if it weren't for the accusations about him, I'd have been pretty happy with the hire, assuming he got some assistants who could recruit the South. He did a solid job at Rutgers, good enough to get an NFL job and to get Rutgers into a solid conference.
He’s an average coach. Did a solid job at Rutgers. Not exceptional. Everywhere he has been he has left there with broken relationships. He’s the prototype and original to Butch Jones xerox
The only reason Rutgers is in big ten is because it was a package deal. They weren’t a must have commodity .

There were worries about Schiano's personality, but everything I have ever heard about Pruitt is similar. He is an ass from everything I heard about him at UGA.

He said it in those responses though. Hubbs was vocal about it being a bad hire even days ago before we made It.

Some on this board just don’t want to believe Hubbs for some reason. He’s the best there is and it’s by a mile.

I thought Schiano was a fake candidate Hubbs was given by the UTAD. That’s the only thing that made sense. So I doubted it to be true. Didn’t doubt Hubbs info but questioned the motives behind it. Should’ve known better. Hubbs knew. Brought up Schiano two months ago and never stopped. He knew who had this candidate and that’s why he said “I can’t take him off the list.”
Don't disagree with any of that. My point though is people don't like his PC answers. People are over PC answers. They want him to give his opinion as well and he seldom does much of that.

Lol. Simply not true.

Keep reaching. Hubbs owned this coaching search as he always does. We just didn’t like what he was reporting.

What are you arguing here? Hubbs owned info from Haslam, and was not completely truthful in the way he presented it to us, listing Schiano last in a list a few days ago. He’s balancing journalism, business, and access. He’s carrying water man no other way to interpret it. It’s ok if you really like him. I like the guy. He’s in a tough spot. So who put him in that position? Maybe that guy is a problem, and can free Hubbs to engage in unfettered journalism

Get vebables, bring a couple of his guys from Clemson, add some former Vols on the staff, and let's do this

He could probably get Hobby to come from JAX since they were together at Clemson so long. Maybe lire Dan Brooks out of retirement. He retired to East Tennessee.

That is not what I think, nor what I said.

I didn't want Hubbs to say anything except that Currie made a massive mistake trying to hire a mediocre-to-bad coach with numerous character flaws and red flags against the advice of basically everyone in his department.

Instead, we got: "Oh, he has a bad rep, but I'm sure he's changed. Not a bad coach either."

I wasn't talk about you personally. Also, look at my post a couple above this one. It will clarify my point, I think.

That is the guy. His resume is ridiculous. If you want a coordinator he has 10x's the resume of Schiano.

100% agree. My original two that should be targeted were Mullen and Venables. They seemed to be the most accomplished with upside that could compete in the SEC that we could get.

Currie's still the AD though. I don't expect anything good to happen.

The entire reason we nearly hired Greg Schiano yesterday is because Bill Belichick and Urban Meyer told Jimmy Haslam that he's a great coach 4-5 years ago. And he has been obsessed with hiring him in some form or fashion ever since then.

I still think that Currie was hired specifically to hire Greg Schiano.

Schiano's was out there before they even tried to hire him, not just the PSU stuff, but his big of an add he is. It was posted on this board. Venables has been a DC for 18 years and never heard a negative word about him.
