GTFO of here with that first paragraph. I guess you just glossed past all the people saying they didn't feel like they could take their boys to games, were torn up by thinking about having to turn their back on something they love, etc. News flash, that doesn't happen if UT hires literally anyone else short of Art Briles. If that's really how you feel about this situation, then this board isn't the right place for you.

He is on ignore and was way before yesterday. He is a troll and always has been. Everyone please quit quoting and engaging him

Currie should have said, “John Gruden is a great commentator and friend of this university, but having shared some fireside chats, I don’t think junk he’s interested in coaching college football so we are focusing our search elsewhere.”

Then go after him on the DL, but Currie fed this up front

Quit taking his $ if he insists on something in return, such as "power/influence".

But, there's other obvious ramifications in doing so and therein lies the challenge.

Exactly. No more squid pro row.

It's not that hard to tell Haslam would a piece of crap he is and he is not needed at UT ever again because he has done nothing but ruin this proud University

How do you fire a booster?

Bring in a venture capital firm that will fund research to get the academics on your side, but will not be available if a mosquito dick hire is made. Mobilize the masses and the lower-level boosters via twitter campaign to let Currie/Haslam know that only the White Whale will be accepted. Leak story of Blackburn being best friends with Gruden and Petersen. Replace Haslam money with combination of low-level booster money and Ergen money. Offer free advertising to Love's Travel Stops on Dish Network until Haslam concedes. Kick back and drink my scotch at exclusive country club.

Well, I believe a man stated that he heard that somebody else had heard 20 years ago that Schiano was aware.

And everybody else involved in that line of hearsay denied all of it.

Someone else linked another article regarding it. There's a little more to it than the one sworn affidavit. I think it was Vols4Us who linked it.

She is part of the ones who did. She can’t oppose the move which means she’s just another pawn.

She is part of the problem just because she exists.

I disagree. You want a chancellor that doesn't meddle in athletics. We saw how a meddler is in the booger man. She's perfect, sit over there and do your thing, be a cheerleader. Stay the Eff out of the athletic side.

I actually suspect Guden may have been a play by somebody to make something like this happen. Maybe there really is a booster power struggle and this was a setup to reduce somebody else’s influence?

Party A: Over sells with the prospect of Gruden.

Currie: Under delivers with Schiano.

Party A: push WaPo story about Schiano and Sandusky on social media as soon as the story breaks.

Fan base revolts, party A steps in and says this wasn’t a good idea, and everybody pushing Schiano loses influence?

Total conspiracy theory and it was actually sort of the narrative to begin with, which probably makes it less likely given how things have played out, but nevertheless that’s what I think. The trolls should still be banned as thoroughly as possible though, IMO.

1) Did we ever actually interview anyone else or even contact to gauge interest from coaches such as Frost, Petersen, Mullen, etc.?
2) Kind of a follow up to the first question, Has Schiano been the pick the whole time?
3) Do you think this was mostly on Currie or mostly a Haslem choice or both?
4) Is there some kind of split in the Athletic Department right now and between boosters? Meaning one side was duped into thinking this search was going a completely different direction than it went?
5) Is Currie and/or the Haslems that out of touch with the pulse of the fans that they thought this was ever be a good idea? Even if you take the Penn state stuff out of the equation, I think there would have been plenty of uproar on this hire from a fit and coaching standpoint
6) What is each of you guys personal opinion on the hire if it would have went through? From a coaching standpoint, fit, perception and if you thought TN could have done better?

1. Tennessee definitely gauged the interest of guys like Mullen and Frost. They certainly tested the waters on guys.

2. He has been up on the list the whole time. But I don't think he's been the pick for two weeks like some have suggested.

3. I think the Haslem's were heavily involved. We know Peyton was as well.

4. I don't think they were duped or mislead, but I think many of them were in the dark about where things were going.

5. I think what enhanced the anger regarding him outside of Penn State was the fact that for so long everyone was on the Gruden train that many thought was becoming a reality. They should have put that to bed to put some reality into what was real about the search.

6. I think he would have been a tough fit. He has a reputation of being hard to deal with and plenty in the athletic department were nervous about him. But I'm sure he has changed. Schiano is a tough hard nosed guy, but I don't think he's a bad coach.

You're giving too much credit with stuff like this. The decision makers involved with this University are clearly not capable of orchestrating complicated scenarios like above. They base their decisions on one thing and one thing only. How can I profit from this.

Hubbs carrying water for what would have been a miserable hire, and a hire that may have ruined his business.

Odd.
