I would have taken any of the following:

-Gruden
-Petersen
-Patterson
-Frost
-Mullen
-Campbell

Now we are stuck with Coach GoogleMe. This was supposed to be a statement hire after 3 botched/failed football hire and 10 years of abject failure. We have now been set back even further.

"Big, expensive, explosive"
-John Currie

That's what we were told right?

Man... just caught up. Here was my thoughts.

1. Woke up at 6:00 am, checked ESPN app immediately, like a kid on Christmas morning. Vols on verge of hiring Schiano. "What the..."

2. Begin checking VN, every single page, getting enraged and tensed with every page. Thinking about the prospect of dropping my obsession with Tennessee football, posting a little, but just really ready to drop it.

3. I remember my fears and posts about the AD not caring about anything but making shiny things, about how I had been a fool to ever believe otherwise... only to have some faith restored as we began to debate the merits of whether Mullen was worthy. Suddenly... my fears were absolutely, and completely realized.

4. I see that Currie has apparently not put 10 minutes of work into this, based on his behavior, was much more concerned with the air of secrecy and thus did not open his thought process up to anyone with a brain. He stewed in his own self-arrogancy, thinking this was the best he could do. I was told to trust the master plan, and that he would come out smelling like roses. I was led to believe that Patterson and Mullen were in the back pocket. I was told that he was high on Frost and Campbell. I actually watched an acting AD use every possible positive name as a smokescreen for one of the worst possible hires, and actually convince himself this was a good idea. He may have actually even signed him already, screwing the AD out of 20 million, though I have to see this to believe it.

5. Then... like the Titans of old... I saw Volnation rise up with a fury which has never been seen in the world of sports. Singlehandedly, this fanbase crushed it all. I would not have thought it possible, but we did it.

6. Now, Currie must go. Put Fulmer in. Don't waste time. He's there already, he loves Tennessee, and as we've seen, when you give these monkeys 9 months to hire an AD, Currie is what we get.

7. We are probably not looking to get a proven winner. Campbell, Petersen, Taggart, Frost and mostly likely out, unless they were never contacted due to Currie's ineptitude. We are to the point to where maybe we get Morris, who may turn out good. Leach may come because he is completely unaware of anything, but the dude wins everywhere. Otherwise, Tee may angle to get in, and may be the best we can do.

8. I am sad, because our dreams of a top coach have once again been dashed, and our administration has proven again that they do not care and only want butts in the seats. I am proud of us as a fanbase, that we have let them know this is unacceptable. Let's watch.

The one good thing is I have been able to show my son that when good people make a stand for morals instead of just looking at winning at all cost, even the little guy can have a voice and make a difference. Even if we roll out Bobo, we can still support the Vols and hopefully have a coach with integrity. However, he will still have to win to keep his job and we are sick of losing. :) But at least we don't have to cheer for someone else.

No one took him up on the $50g bet. If he pays up he'll owe a couple of grand I'd guess.

That's not bad then. I could see him ponying up on that. He's lucky nobody took him up on 50k. Still don't think he would've (or could've) made that good.

Listen this may turn out to be better than ever for UT...
No coach is 100 % a sure thing
It takes a management that put all the pieces together
Some real thought may go into this now and turn out 100% better than a quick hire...
This coach is probably going to get a lot of Tennessee patience and good will to work with....just watch
could work to the fans advantage!

I think it’s time to give up the Sitting HC for the next hire...not that i don’t think you can get one but you don’t get any currently successful/comfortable ones.

I think we have to go freshly fired/left
Sumlin

Or (preferred method)
Hot coordinator
Tee
Arranda
Venebles.

I agree hank.

boy.. that sucked to type..

No one ever thought we'd do much after Manning left and Tee proved us wrong then. He has earned a second chance. Would be a good thing after a lot of bad. Plus we can make good with Sexton so future searches aren't hosed.

One of the big reasons I gave some credence to Gruden was Brent Hubbs. I started on VQ in 2000 when I was junior at UT, and Hubbs wasn't even with Rivals yet. I have read his updates for years, and he does not show his hand unless he has concrete information. He mentioned a number for Gruden and quickly backtracked. Sure, it would always be up to Gruden himself and whether it not he would coach college. But people totally just dismissing it missed the signs that something was up.

It's my understanding that Blackburn and Gruden have a relationship that goes back to their time together at UT in the mid-80's and Blackburn was quoted in the TFP as saying Gruden was definitely a viable option and would listen.

"He and I communicate from time to time," Blackburn said. "I would definitely think he's a viable option. He's a guy who loves coaching and loves Tennessee. Our history is probably the reason we get along so well. My dad was a coach in a small town, and Jon is a rural Ohio guy whose dad was a coach, so we're just two good old boys who like to talk football.

"I can't sit here and say he will take it if offered, but I do think he would listen. Tennessee is like home for him, and he'd be a great fit."

I'm under the impression that we have some boosters who have always wanted Gruden but for whatever reason our administration has never appeared all that interested.

Some of the other boosters need to have a sit down with the Haslems and say we've done thus your, you need to move over and let someone else drive for a bit. Get in the back seat.

Haslam probably won't allow it.

Idk but Sumlin got a racist note in his mailbox. Taggart is from the south. Doubt he would be scared to coach in the south.

Today ruled out Taggart imo though. Just cause he’s not gonna come here now.

I think we are stuck in a no man's land where guys who know they aren't going to win over the fanbase immediately will stay home. They don't want to walk into a hornet's nest. And more proven hires will be wary as well. We will probably end up overpaying out the ass for someone.

So he did it 3 times? I saw it here in this article and didn’t watch the video.

“In just Schiano's second game as coach of the Bucs, he famously ordered his players to dive for the legs of the Giants players as Eli Manning was taking a knee to run out the clock. The move was universally condemned, and led to Coughlin undressing Schiano after the game.

When Schiano pulled off a similar move in a loss to the Denver Broncos later in the same season, Peyton let Schiano have it and he used language most had never heard Manning use before.“

Schiano serious; Bucs blitz kneel-down again vs. Cowboys

Campbell has already removed his name. We're going to have to hire someone who understands the fanbase's passion is a positive and not a negative. That is likely a former VFL.

Do you think that Blackburn thinks Gruden would be interested but we never offer?

it's easy to spin for a different ad. "you're not Schiano. you'll be loved immediately"
