You were certain last time. Rode the fence as long as you could huh?

Riding the fence implies one has control over a decision and I do not. I have discussed pros and cons of Gruden, Mullen, Frost, Patterson, Peterson a little and Kelly. Not once have I said one of them is close to a deal or in my eyes a "done deal" until today.

Yes I was certain last time. I bought into the hype and paid for it. If I am wrong now I will probably hear about it for a long time but I have broad shoulders. I can take it lol. I made a prediction and stand by it and will until proven otherwise.

As I said earlier I do not care who we hire as long as we get a good coach that will bring our program back to prominence. I believe we have and will.

I just don’t think there is anyway you can trot out a coach like Frost. No offense to him, as I think eventually he will be a good coach, but our alumni, current players, and fans are not happy. We demand success from our football team. You have to swing for the fences with this hire, not give an up and coming coach a chance. This is a make or break hire, and the boosters and Currie know this. It’s got to be Gruden and Harbough T1, Petersen and Patterson T2.

Hopefully, we will get one of those, but what if he tried to get those guys, and they wouldn't come?

Frost and Campbell would be the best choice after that, IMO.

The 21-14 final is not indicative of how much we kicked their azz that day. Pat tie Dye said something similar after the game.

Agree. This is one of my favs to pull up and watch on utube. We had great seats for that monsoon. Was in the north end zone in the dry. Reggie Cobbs 80 yard run was right at us. Great times with great friends. Charles McRae with a pancake block on the cobb run, marion hobby with 5 blocked passes, andy kelly makes his debut.

How about this John Kelly todd Kelly and Juan Jennings and McDowell and Kirkland have already said they are coming back next year they got there medical redshirts

Bcarter,

Sorry that there are some that are aggressive towards you just for you having passed off information that you believe to be true. I share their sentiment that I hope it isn’t true, but I appreciate your posts and insight nonetheless.

I just don’t see how we couldn’t get Patterson. He has shown interest before, and if we are offering such a huge paycheck to Gruden, surely we could offer him enough to forget our past transgressions towards him.

From the beginning, two groups have defined this. The discontented, result-demanding, Gruden chasers and the establishment, participation award loving, Butch bricklayers.

The Grudes have been told there's a renewed commitment to the program. Multiple posters/sites with access have alluded to this change. Claims have been made to recruits. Some reputable posters have even claimed big boosters drew the necessary lines in the sand to move Butch out effectively after the GA game.

The status quo anti-Grudes meanwhile argue that it is business as usual. John Currie didn't really want to fire Butch. The power structure hasn't really changed. Those folks believe they have the right read on Jon Currie and UT's BOT.

Since the firing, the camps have existed in two completely parallel universes. The anti-Grudes championed by Hyams, Lowe, etc continue the basic theme that the status quo is alive and well. No Gruden; No big money for coaches; No booster or fan influence; etc. While the Grudes continue to receive information stoking their belief that CJG is coming home.

So what is reality? Are the Grudes being led along to keep them quiet during the hiring process or are the anti-grudes just so dang arrogant that they cannot recognize their obvious shortsightedness?

Either way, I think we find out soon. The establishment is starting to put out Frost/Mullen announcement rumors for next week. Grudes are prepped for Gruden next week.

My point? We're about to find out not just who we get as coach, but whether there's truly been a fundamental shift in the attitude toward the program.

If Mullen or Frost trot out, that tells me it's status quo. The lazy establishment media is propped up by UT in exchange for predictability. Academicians, who are educated beyond their intelligence, will continue to call the shots for an entity over which they are singularly unqualified to have authority. Mediocrity will be accepted as long as it provides modest financial return.

If Gruden marches out, then the "we cannot expect to routinely win 10 games" crowd has been tossed out on their collective ear. Establishment media will be "dis" established. The academic side will focus on managing and improving their part of the UT and the athletic side will handle athletics. In short, it's a reset for UT. People who have gotten results in their business careers will obviously be demanding equally successful results from their University.

Call me fatalistic, but if the status quo shows up, I think the exits get crowded. If the "safe" hire happens to be successful, it won't end up mattering because without the new commitment, we'll lose a strongly successful coach to someone who is committed.

Jon Gruden walking out on that stage is not just about getting Jon Gruden. It's about setting an expectation for our University. It's about whether we are determined to be great, or whether we just want to protect the status quo.

SOON better be the answer or "never again" may be what we get left with.

Good thing SOON is the answer. :)

I agree to a certain degree but let’s say Gruden was never an option based on his own preference even tho we threw the brinks truck at him...

Who do you view as another non-safe exciting hire... I’d say Peterson, Patterson, Kelly who else?

Good not fantastic hires are Frost or Mullen...

I’m disappointed with Norvell or the alike...

We’ve had a fun week in Mexico so far. Taking the kids to Tulum tomorrow than a Mexican fiesta at the resort for dinner. The food will probably be meh, but I’ll be a few margaritas in and won’t care. Thankful for my friends, family, and God through which all things are, possible.

Happy Thanksgiving - be safe and enjoy. Did Tulum and Playa resort fiesta thing end of summer -always fun in Mexico. Take care and Go Vols
