I helped tear down and carry the goalposts after the Auburn game in '85. We eventually took them to the OCI where they remained for a lot of years. We got free drinks for bringing them in.
I was in the last rows of Neyland for that Vandy game, and it was cool seeing the posts come down from up there.
2 yrs...almost 2400 yards, 58% passing, and lest we forget the 2005 LSU game coming in for Ainge. I was driving home that game and almost wrecked when the defense held them at the end of the game.
My father is a member of the Walden club. One of his business partners is a member at the honors (who is connected with the Luptons). So from time to time my dad is in the position to talk to some legit connected people. He has been avoiding the grumor discussions every time we talk or I see him. At first I thought he was just not asking his connections enough questions or didnt want to leverage those friendships and business relationships for info. He went to UT for 6 years and bleeds orange so my common sense told me otherwise. He told me he is to the point of not answering my calls if I dont stop asking him, half joking of course. Lol I guess Ive been a little over the top with them.
So, I said lets get dinner at Js and get a few drinks. He tells me to tell him what Ive heard and quote none of that bs on forums. I had made a note on my iPhone from what Ive personally been told along with signing dates and what orange pill has been saying.
Interestingly when I started reading off orange points bullet points he admitted he had heard a lot of those and believe them to be true. He said he was told we had gruden in early November or that he had given UT a verbal agreement at the least. He said he heard gruden would be announced after vandy. The only irritating thing he said was ill believe it when I see him at the podium. He said this last decade has had me sleep walking through UT football. I hope I see them become relevant before I die. That was a mood killer lol. None the less it was a nice dinner and I promised Id not mention names this time around since its my dad. But the people he heard it from I trust and some are family friends that hes known for 30 plus years.
*****To JAVs post, he says Currie is playing this close to the vest and only 2-3 people know and the ones that do arent posting.....well how in the hell does he know then?! He is spot on with recruiting. He seems to have strayed a little off the path on this one.
Umm..We fired Botch..that should tell you all you need to know. Did you just start following the Vols recently?I hate to mention this, but, we've had several recruiting classes in the past few years that should have produced some outstanding teams, and some of them, a lot of them, went to the NFL and did produce some great performances, so is recruiting overrated or did our staff just not produce the umpteen$ they were paid to produce ?

You must be too young to remember the really great ones..but to each his own. One of my favorite Vols is Bruce Wilkerson..he was the OL who shut Jerome Brown's fat mouth up in the Sugar bowl, but almost nobody realizes that. He pancaked JB several times in that game. He was a standout all year though.
Recruiting seems to have been on point, for the most part. It has been player development and utilization that have been lacking. Only those with immense individual talent and drive/determination have reached anywhere close to their potential.
