Official Jon Gruden thread XL

Bubba, in his usual, understated manner, sent us a coded message, "Gruden to the hill soon."

MIT came on and dispensed with any symbolism, and said Gruden was coming.

Atlanta Vol came on, and while not stepping on any announcement of a hire, cheerfully suggested adding some golfing to MIT's planned formal Gruden Party.

Knucklehead and Orangepill both confirmed Gruden signed last Tuesday.

I'd say today was a pretty big deal on our little corner of the interwebz.

:)

If it ain't happening, someone would have leaked by now, I guarantee it

I'm glad you're back. Doyle and Grand Vol are too old to stay up past 8 anymore so they're probably crashed right now, but they post a lot during the day, Jake from Colorado is usually in here really late after his bar closes. He asked me about ylu the other day. I saw Sam in The RF football talk thread a couple of days ago, but he is too grown up now to play much.

Hey ****er, I had a new employee orientation tonight and I'm still getting caught up.

I have to throw in my favorite game into the mix. 1998 Florida. I was in the student section as that final field goal was missed by the bad guys. We couldn't tell, but the reaction of the end zone crowd gave us all we needed. Next thing I remember was the crowd surging to the field. I didn't make it in time to tear down the first goal post, but actually got to climb onto the second one and help tear it down. I saw a picture later that I HATE that I didn't get from a clipping that shows me on top of the post as it started to topple.

Everywhere you went outside of the stadium, people were just tossing beers and other drinks to you. I also remember watching pieces of the goal post come down Volunteer from fraternity park. The strip and parties that night were epic.

And for what it's worth, we will continue on after Gruden is hired. There will be golf, bars, and many dilly dillys in our future!

I helped carry one of the goal posts (can't remember if it was the 1st or 2nd). I remember the siren lights being smashed off the top of the ambulance as the post was lifted over it to get out of the stadium... carrying it through the streets while singing "It's Great to be a Tennessee Vol" and "Rocky Top"... and then, for a reason I still don't understand, dumping it in the Tennessee River. Lol!

Favorite game: Took my brand new California wife to see Oct 17, 1970 game vs Alabama. Bill Battle's Vols beat Bear Bryant's team 24 to 0. She has been All Vol ever since.

I am new to posting so please be gentle. I was thinking about what Jimmy "The Dancing Machine" Hyams comments today concerning his "source" and that every coach he brought up to his "source" was not going to work. He bought up pretty much everyone but Gruden and his source shot them all down. Could this have been a "controlled leak"?

Word is a show of respect for those playing and coaching the Vandy game. As for Hyams, I don't know if he knows. 1 poster called him a pawn, which is polite in these threads, IMO.

Thanks. I’m not as skilled as GV.

The '79 Notre Dame game was a good one. We were sitting in the open end zone. My buddy and I had a deal where we would drink a big shot of whiskey every time TN scored (this is after a pre game 6 pack each) TN scored so much in the first half my buddy was puking in his cup. The ladies sitting behind us were surprisingly compassionate.

Ok, the Grude's gonna be expensive, but who isn't ? What's the difference between 4.5m for CBJ vs whatever for the Grude, the value in recruiting alone would pay the difference. I'm fed up with the Dooley's and Jone's and let's hope he can coach. Get a name brand (Gruden), and a first class staff and go for it VOL dudes. Again, if not now, then when ? Just do it.

My source has told me that an announcement is coming early next week. And he told me it was a 5yr deal around $51 million. I honestly cannot doubt what he said. Ive said all along we've had our man. If we didn't Currie sure as he!! Wouldn't be in the Bahamas!

I know why. They were heavy and awkward as ****! I carried one for a while and then got distracted by beer.

It's not about how much. Again, as Tuesday said, it's about the long term success of UT in many different areas. This is bigger than Gruden.

Sounds about right from where I sit. Thanks.

Spoke with a few of my close friends (VFLs) 2 are active in the NFL and 2 no longer play. Those are my sources, of you want to verify my cred. One plays for Steelers and other for Tampa. The two retired ones, both live in TN.

Anyway, good news from all 4. All had a slightly different story, but all their stories and facts seem to line up. I’m moving from 97% to 100%.

I’m officially saying it’s 100% done. Gruden Baby!!!!!
