Time to Move on From Gruden Talk?

Thanks Jason, you may be correct.

I don't agree with the logic of waiting for an interim to finish the season.

I don't understand waiting unless there is an unavoidable legal issue that can be remedied by waiting until next Tuesday. I am just not aware of any such issue.

I honestly think if by some small chance it is Gruden he would insist on waiting till after our last game. That's been mentioned a few times by various so called insiders that Gruden absolutely would not let it be announced till then and Curry wanted to do it sooner. But outside of a couple posters I take it all with a grain of salt. But just based off everything I have seen and heard about Gruden he would never agree to an announcement during the season. But still won't believe it till I see it on Gruden being our next HC. But hoping like hell he is.

I will "move on" when a coach not named Gruden walks up to the podium.

Don't care what anyone says until that happens. Gruden to the Hill!

I'd guess the no has already been delivered. With an early signing period and a team getting shelled on a weekly basis, seems like there'd be no reason to delay positive news right now if there was any. At the very least, leaks would be happening.

Gruden is just building his brand by sitting back and not commenting.

Probably will be a big backlash against JG for letting this go so long if it doesn't happen.
IF Jon isn't interested he should have squashed Grumors as soon as Butch was fired.
If he REALLY is interested, then I'm sure UT will do almost anything possible to satisfy his needs to coach here.
I'm 50% still in the Gruden camp and think everything is in place except to finalize staff. I'm a gluten for punishment though.

True. The sad thing is that there is a whole thread on here with people so immersed, involved and absolutely convinced that he is coming that no amount of logic and evidence to the contrary will convince them otherwise.

It's a different world than most of VN that's for sure. There are also several getting a kick out of fanning the flames with fantasy

Are we wasting time even thinking of Gruden coming to Knoxville? I think we should just face facts, move on to the next, and concentrate on that person (or two or three people), and throw all of our resources into that.

I think Gruden is either playing around, getting his name out there for advertising dollars, or maneuvering for an NFL offer.

See the link from his broadcasting partner.

ESPN broadcaster Sean McDonough on partner Jon Gruden: 'He's not going to Tennessee'

I know this is probably a merge waiting to happen. :)

Actually the time to move on from the Gruden talk when on Sunday, November 12th, when he decided to NOT come to U.T. for a sit down.
that told us all we need to know.
I am inclined to believe what a previous poster posted a few days ago. Curries asked Gruden to NOT mention anything about it because it would cause panic in the Vol Nation. "Oh My Goodness, Gruden turned us down and now the sky is falling"

yes, time to move on. kinda wish it'd of never gotten off the ground. it's not been good for us these last two searches. too many dots need connected.....and man is there some effort going in to that..........

but so many are gruden or bust, there's going to be too many folks really upset it's not Gruden, when we're probably going to get a really good coach out of this.....and the "back up plans" some have listed if we don't get gruden....

jeez..."ill take" patterson, peterson, fuente, or franklin. well...duh. so would most anyone...cause those are guys that would be on most's A List.

and i don't think any of those kind of guys are neccessarily all that realistic really. you ask, you find out, if you can get one, you make it happen, yeah...but i don't see any of those getting serious...

so i do agree..the sooner we can move on, the better.

Well said

As sad as I am to say it, I am leaving the grumors behind. Common sense just says there would be no reason for them to delay the announcement if we had him. It would be best for recruiting to announce it as soon as possible. The angle on him not wanting to overshadow the guys still coaching here is just ludicrous. Everyone knows Hoke or anyone else on staff are just coaching for new jobs right now. The only thing the guys we are after are still coaching right now.

I got fussed at and called a troll last night for saying Gruden imo wasn't coming and let's move on . Hope he does and we win a national. I just don't see , but I don't know.GBO

If you went to a Gruden thread, they are protected, unlike other threads.

They need their hideout so they can act childish and giggle with each other.

Gruden would bring a splash and, perhaps, some good recruits for a year or two. But, as I have stated, he seems more of a marketing hire than a coaching hire.

There seems not to be a mutual interest in him coaching at UT. Otherwise, he would be announced by now.

It perfectly reasonable to think Gruden could come here. We don’t know a lot, but we do know that ESPN will make big layoffs after Thanksgiving and that’s Gruden’s ckntract isn’t guaranteed. It’s a tricky situation for them to navigate without the talent learning who is leaving. He really may not know or be in negotiations with them right now. That coupled with NFL offers to weigh makes it murky at best.

The only thing I know for sure is that if it were a definite no he would have said something by now.

That's where I was , not going back. Thanks for the reply!

I think the time to move on was about 2008

The frustrating thing about this whole coaching search is the fact that unless you're targeting a guy who's currently not coaching, you're kind of forced to wait it out until the season is over. No active coach is getting interviewed until their season is over. I think that's at least part of the reason why the Gruden talk won't end, because he's one of the few guys out there that we could actually talk to. Once this week is over we'll start hearing more news about coaching interviews with realistic candidates.

What I believe about the Gruden story, as if anyone cares. :)

I do believe we have been in discussions with Gruden but I find it highly unlikely that he would want to coach in college.

If through some great thrust of cash he has said yes, if I were he and Currie, I'd wait until the evening before the championship games to announce it. If they did that, they'd own the news cycle throughout the weekend of the playoffs. It would be mandatory coverage on each and every game played that day. There's really no reason to announce before then. The staff would have plenty of time to try and cobble together a good class with what we already have.

Yes.

And there is a real danger that the AD is feeling pressure to pursue this Gruden foolishness because of the idiotic fanbase, which absolutely will NOT help us find and land the real HR hire we so desperately need. I propose we ban the word "Gruden" on Volnation until further notice. It isn't helping, folks!

Eh, I don’t think it really matters. We can ***** and moan, but if the next guy wins we’ll be in the stands cheering. It’s not like people will actually abandon a good coach who isn’t named Job Gruden.

It sucks but there's really not a whole lot that can be done about it. It drives traffic for Freak.

Since it's basically a roleplay/social/fantasy thread full of fake insiders, the only thing you can really do is move it to an off topic forum.
