Time to Move on From Gruden Talk?

So, Michigan talking about Harbaugh or Bama talking about Saban or Ohio State talking about Meyer before they were hired was "embarrassing"?

Hey, I know. Let's talk about another mediocre hire that continues to get us 6-8 wins per regular season instead of back at our rightful place as a leader in the SEC.

The ones talking about Gruden are embarrassing? People that don't want to shoot for the stars are the ones who are embarrassing.

There is a designated safe space for people that actually believe Gruden will be the next head coach.

The Gruden threads in 2012 left a bad taste in mouth about this site. The lies, the conspiracies, the attitude towards others. I know people went along with it just for fun, and that is cool. Still others were lead like sheep by the lies of several posters. I know some will say so-so happen and so-so pulled the plug, etc., but what is one of the first post in the Cliff Notes version of those threads? A poster saying it was 100% that Gruden will be the next coach. Now I went to a county school, but 100% means it is for sure going to happen. Now this same poster and others are leading others along like sheep again. My first thought about firing Butch Jones (which should have been fired after the Vandy game last year) was here comes the Gruden rumors. Surely Vol Nation wouldn't fall for it again. Well well here we are again.

No that is not embarrassing. What is embarrassing is running with every internet rumor that supports your belief like it is fact, and calling anything that doesn't support it fake news or a smokescreen. Not saying you did, but many in that thread did.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Jason, it is possible.

I don't believe he is coming based on the fact that, if he was going to be the next HC, he should be here by now. Also, knowing that he was such a hot topic before and he did not come to UT to coach.

Just based off what I know about Gruden and his reputation for having the highest respect for Coach's he would never have it announced until the end of the season. He knows the distraction's it causes and isn't gonna step on any coach's toe's. I don't think he comes here but either way we never were gonna know till our final game. Especially with an interim coach. He would be contradicting that foundation he started if he allowed himself to be announced for any HC job before the season ended. It's not how he does business. If he isn't announced by next Tues at the latest following the Vandy game then it will be put to rest for good either way.

Dude is playing us like a fiddle. Every time his name is mentioned it's increasing the value of his "brand" and gives him leverage with his current deals.

I definitely don't believe this. He's not getting anymore money out of ESPN and with him being the highest paid announcer he would be doing them a favor by leaving. Especially with all their cutbacks and declining NFL ratings. His brand doesn't need Grumors to enhance them. His name comes up every year somewhere without him doing a thing but sit back.

Thanks Jason, you may be correct.

I don't agree with the logic of waiting for an interim to finish the season.

I don't understand waiting unless there is an unavoidable legal issue that can be remedied by waiting until next Tuesday. I am just not aware of any such issue.

No it will not. People will use his MNF schedule as an excuse next. They will not let it rest until we actually hire someone.

They won’t let it rest then either. It will be that they heard it from some insider that it was a done deal but Currie, Davenport, Haslam(s), etc... screwed it up and we had to settle for whomever it is.

A true Grudenite can only accept one person as the HC of the Vols. Even though it will never happen.

we are the universal pawn that everyone uses to get more elsewhere.

If ESPN wasn't hemorrhaging $ and this was an NFL gig (that the "experts" expect him to take if he coaches again) it would make more sense.

Neither exist in this situation.

Funny because people who believe Gruden is a strong possibility are the actual ones who care about being National Title Contenders again.

We’re tired of being mediocre while some of ya’ll are ok with it.

Being a realist, most understand he is not interested. Place your blame on Gruden.
