5-7 and going Bowling

Wow, controversy.

I certainly didn't take it as disparaging when Bamawriter and I were discussing the lack of paths for Tennessee to get to a bowl game. He's a student of the game of football just as many of us are, and I think he was just getting engaged in the mechanics of it all. I sure didn't feel like he was trying anything rival-driven, like rubbing our noses in it or anything.

Having said that, I get the other angle, too. I've been a temporary member of the fan boards of other teams, and have always personally steered away from the more painful and delicate threads, like after they lost a game. Sometimes it did seem best to just let them have their board without my intrusion.

So yeah, see both sides. But me personally, I wasn't at all put out by my and Bamawriter's conversation. Just wanted to get that out there.

Go Vols!

Very fair.

When I first saw bamawriter in this thread, I was a little put off, but I let it go because I’ve enjoyed his posts elsewhere. After coming back here and seeing page after page, I had to say something.
The normalization of this is indicative of how far this program has sunk under its continued sorry leadership - a mixed bag of weakness, incompetence, and indifference.

Tennessee and Ohio State are the only two programs not to loose 8 games in the history of college football; I just want to see them play and win against Candy! Let’s move on to next season after that!

I'm afraid this Vol squad needs to be flushed once and for all...........the team stinks to high heaven:twocents:

Bowl for us? As jack Nicklaus once said- we can't handle the truth!

If GT could have made a 2-pt conversion, we would be 3-8 now. This season needs do just end.

The Bama fan in the Coaching Search thread is a different fan.
His posts in there have been useful, but I’m sure part of him thinks it’s hilarious that we’re going through yet another coaching search while he sits on Saban’s pedestal.

Similarly, I’m sure at least a part of you thinks it’s funny that we’re missing a bowl. Or, do you want us to do well when we’re not playing Bama? I’m fine with you generally always rooting against us, but that’s also my point regarding your appearance and tone in this thread.

I think there are more Florida and Bama fans on VN than any other SEC school. I wonder why that is.
In the winter, we’ll see more KY fans.

You are giving this gump too much of your attention.

Ky fans know better than to run their mouths. Well maybe. They are the gumps 2nd cousin.

Each one if those teams fans know that the days are numbered that the get to win against us. So they talk it up now.

Seriously?
You think I’m a bully?

I apologize for interrupting everyone’s chances to rub shoulders with Alabama.

You missed the point badly.

You are the one who went down the insult path, then accused him of that very thing. So you you threw the punches (made insults), he punched back (with insults), and then you whined about him making insults.

You're making fun of other fans for being stupid, and your whole argument is based on 5-10 or more teams declining bids so that we get one.

Why is it so hard to believe that more teams would decline bowl bids this year than have declined bids over the past 50 years combined?

Y'all have a "can't" problem.

I recognized the likely hood when I found out our ARR was in the 50's range.

What I don't get is why people want to speak in absolutes, when they don't apply.

There is a huge difference between "It could happen." Vs "It can't happen.".

Just admit that it's not 0% chance.

You probably thought it was a 0% chance we could complete two Hail Mary passes in back to back seasons. It happened.

We aren't discussing the difference between "could" and "can't", we are discussing the difference between "could" and "won't."

Just admit that it's not 0% chance.

But that's the chance. If you're wanting to argue that it's not some kind of mathematical impossibility, then whatever. Here in Nashville, it's a bright sunny day without a cloud in the sky. But I suppose that there is some infinitesimally small possibility that I could step out the front door of my building and get struck by lightning. But given that it won't happen, I'm not concerned with trying to figure out how it could.

Feel free to exhaust all possible scenarios in your head. I'll stick to reality.

I don't get why someone is trying so hard to make a very stupid point. You're essentially arguing that it's not a 0% chance, it's a .000000000000000000000000000001% chance.

This isn't a "could happen" vs. "can't happen", it's a "won't happen".

And no, I would not have said there is a 0% chance we could complete two Hail Mary passes in back to back seasons, because that's not the same thing at all.

I'd say there is a better chance of that happening than us getting a bowl bid.

I heard about the 5-7 bowl possibility a few days ago.

I don't think there is certainty that all bowl openings will not be filled by 6-win teams.

If there is a 5-7 going to a bowl, why would anyone choose either UT or Vandy with only one conference win and that win coming against a team winless in the SEC?

The team could use the extra playing time but I don't think the expectation is reasonable.

When it comes to 5-7 teams, it really isn't an issue of "choose." The bowls are required to pick 5-7 teams in order according to their APR ranking.
