Time to Move on From Gruden Talk?

the guy isnt coming, it was never going to happen. im bummed but it's reality...now we have to sacrifice a turkey that we get jimbo fisher.

Are we wasting time even thinking of Gruden coming to Knoxville? I think we should just face facts, move on to the next, and concentrate on that person (or two or three people), and throw all of our resources into that.

I think Gruden is either playing around, getting his name out there for advertising dollars, or maneuvering for an NFL offer.

See the link from his broadcasting partner.

ESPN broadcaster Sean McDonough on partner Jon Gruden: 'He's not going to Tennessee'

I know this is probably a merge waiting to happen. :)

Why is even a thread about Gruden? Forget HIM. No one wants someone who doesn't want to be here. Move on and try to hire frost or Mullen. Both are excellent coaches.

Mullen or Frost would be a much better hire than Gruden. They could start coaching the 1st day on the job. Gruden could not...

Funny because people who believe Gruden is a strong possibility are the actual ones who care about being National Title Contenders again.

We’re tired of being mediocre while some of ya’ll are ok with it.

see, this is the attitude i'm talking about.

that's simply not true. you don't get your "true fan" card punched because you believe he's a strong possibility.

we, y'all....

what difference does that make when he doesn't take the job? then where do you go? how do you exercise your superiority over the rest of us that just want mediocre football?

There is a iconic troll comment.

I think there is a thread just for you.

If Gruden was coming, he would be here. He is not interested.

For those who realize that truth, there are other options to discuss.

I see this as the most likely reason why Currie has not addressed the rumors that have reached a national level. If all the focus is on Gruden then he can almost freely reach out to Mulllen, Patterson, Frost....hope we go no further than that lol.

I am just not sure he is in touch with the impact it is having on the vocal minority that are 100% convinced Gruden is a done deal. Maybe its insignificant but anyone I talk to its all they talk about and many will give no other coach a chance. It has to also affect any prospective candidates view of the job especially in regards to the fan base and the Boosters who have leaked what I consider false information to create an outcry in the fanbase for Gruden.

Hopefully, unless the 1% chance Gruden is actually considering an offer, that the AD will at the very least issue a press release stating they reached out to Gruden and he was not interested a few days before announcing the hire and give it a few days to simmer down. It seems to already be doing so as the Gruden thread is hitting the brakes on posts so I think people are coming to the realization that he is not going to be the next HC.

Eh. I don't understand why Gruden being a "distraction" is worth anything to a search that doesn't include him. It doesn't add to the list or chances that you land anybody else.

Basically, knowing where Currie is does not decrease UTs chances of landing an other coach.

If I can see that Lane is the best available option, then I think just maybe Currie can see that too!

you know, smart minds think alike and so on

time will tell

He could end this by just saying NO. Sounds like Gruden is a narcissistic ego maniac who loves attention. Just what we need, another Lane Kiffen.

How about not settling for “Safe Hires”?

How many of those have been working out for us here lately?

I think most of us are tired of our fans downplaying expectations.

8-9 wins and bowl games seems to be enough anymore for us to be happy.

Should have never been any talk to begin with..... but in the mean time, AD Currie continues to go about his business in a professional manner.

Safe hires end up being the most unsafe hires. I petition for Clay Helton...but I'm not even 1%.

none of that has a thing to do with whether or not one should "believe in gruden", and it's certainly not validation of it.

and we didn't go after, and settle for Dooley or Jones. we WOUND UP with dooley and jones.

i have a sneaking suspicion that we won't WIND UP with our next coach. and it's still not going to be Gruden.

I said a week ago that Gruden is nothing but a smokescreen, and a lot of the big boosters are having fun watching the fan base try to figure it out. Currie is suppose to be out interviewing potential coaches, which should tell you it’s not Gruden. I do believe we are swinging between burning mattresses in Knoxville, or drinking champagne across Vol nation depending on the hire. I also believe we MUST hire a big name or we can go back to figuring out where to eat after halftime. :dance2::loco:

It's not a waste of time, because Gruden will be our coach!
