Time to Move on From Gruden Talk?

Because they're making up the "He loves UT" in their minds; he loves us about as much as he loves Subway.

That actually couldn't be any less accurate. He's said it many times how much he loves TN. He most likely isn't our next HC but he's been very open on how he feels about TN.

He said he don't plan to leave. How much more do you people want

Perhaps you should talk to Alabama fans about how Nick Saban is not gonna be the head coach for the Crimson Tide... and he DID actually explicitly state that he wasn’t going to take the job.

“You know what Mike, I haven’t talked to anybody and all I really have in my life is my family and football, that’s it,” Gruden said. "I’m real sensitive to the coaches that are out there, so I don’t speculate. I just love football and I’m just trying to hang on to the job I have. I’m very fortunate to be with the people I’m with.
"I don’t know what's going to happen in the future, I just know this — I’m going to give my best effort to the game, stay prepared and I love Monday Night Football, don’t plan on leaving, but as you know in life, you never say never to nothing."

Clearly says he's trying to keep the job he has. And don't plan to leave.

Y'all are caught up in all the other "never say never" crap to accept it

So he is just going to come out and say he wants to leave ESPÑ and coach again? Not to mention that was said while we still had a HC and very positive he wouldn't say he has interest in a job that didn't have an opening. Like I said he has not said no publicly nor has he said he has no interest once the job opened up. No I don't think he takes the job but he's not once said no. He's expressed interest in the past so there's no denying that.

I’ve been saying Gruden isn’t coming and that the Beav guy is a troll for the last 6 weeks and repeatedly got bashed for it. Beav said it was a done deal literally a month ago and predicted the announcement being every Monday for the rest of the year.

I love the people who say I told you this and I told you that. You guys dont know jack squat. Everyone has their opinion and thats all. Maybe Gruden does come. Maybe he doesn't. I know one thing for sure. Absolutely nobody on VN knows for sure.

It matters not a wit what "we" want or think. The only opinion that matters is that of AD Currie. Everything else is simply forum fodder.
Just like this post.

Currie or Gruden need to end this now by saying it’s not going to happen. Stop dragging this on... most knew it was a reach but damn some people in Knoxville are excited about the possibility. As a fan base that’s been through a lot we deserve better. If it’s not going to happen just come out and say it so we can move on.

I'm in the Gruden camp until the new hire is announced, one way or another.

If UT goes another way: I can get on board if Gruden supports the new hire. But if Gruden has to google the new coach...

I may have to rethink all this sports fan business. I'm already disillusioned by all the corrupt dealings, biased officiating, and anti-American stances in athletics, at all levels. Football is a HUGE cash cow for UT - it is time to reinvest a bit of that by hiring a decent coaching staff. Otherwise, it may be time to move on.

I'm just a TV/radio fan anyway - no one will miss me.

It’s not my fault people like you take what he said and blow it up into some strong “love”. He’s literally said he loves a ton of places.

Hyams doesn't know what he's talking about.

Gruden does love UT and has said so many times over the years. Hell, his kid goes here and he's been at this school numerous times. The idea that he's just using us or, even worse, just likes the publicity, doesn't jibe with the type of dude he is.

People have heard nothing from anyone in the know and now they are making up narratives to satisfy their impatience. We'll know soon. Well, relatively soon.

Lol, and how do you know what “type of dude” he is? You hang out with him a bunch? And then you turn around and make that last paragraph....how ironic.

No. Not time to move on. Why move on, when he's about to be announced as our next head coach?

Give it a week. Say to 28 November. If it hasn't happened by then, let's talk again.

I don't think he takes the job myself,But if he did he could never live up to the expectations people have for him.

Wish I had kept up with how many threads that have been started about stop talking about Jon Gruden.

Sure he could.

We don't ask for much. Just our share of SEC championships, and maybe a national championship from time to time.

Gruden could bring us that. A half dozen possible next head coaches could achieve that. But certainly Gruden at the head of that list could.

We're not asking for the dude to win American Idol, cure cancer, and lead a colony to Mars. Just win football games and championships. He can do that. He's a smart, experienced fellow.

Are we wasting time even thinking of Gruden coming to Knoxville? I think we should just face facts, move on to the next, and concentrate on that person (or two or three people), and throw all of our resources into that.

I think Gruden is either playing around, getting his name out there for advertising dollars, or maneuvering for an NFL offer.

See the link from his broadcasting partner.

ESPN broadcaster Sean McDonough on partner Jon Gruden: 'He's not going to Tennessee'

I know this is probably a merge waiting to happen. :)

Yes he's had plenty of time to accept if he had a mind to do so. Currie did the right thing by talking with him even though it was a waste of time he has to be the one everytime we go hunting for a coach.
I think were probably in on someone still coaching and expect were waiting on this weeks games to be over.

yes, time to move on. kinda wish it'd of never gotten off the ground. it's not been good for us these last two searches. too many dots need connected.....and man is there some effort going in to that..........

but so many are gruden or bust, there's going to be too many folks really upset it's not Gruden, when we're probably going to get a really good coach out of this.....and the "back up plans" some have listed if we don't get gruden....

jeez..."ill take" patterson, peterson, fuente, or franklin. well...duh. so would most anyone...cause those are guys that would be on most's A List.

and i don't think any of those kind of guys are neccessarily all that realistic really. you ask, you find out, if you can get one, you make it happen, yeah...but i don't see any of those getting serious...

so i do agree..the sooner we can move on, the better.

Told you my thoughts on this yesterday. It's so much more than just Gruden.

I thought if we hired Gruden, or even tried really hard, it would mean that the "powers that be" have actually changed and are putting more emphasis on winning.

Knowing we pushed hard for guys like Gruden or Kelly, whether we got them or not, would make me feel better about whoever we end up with.

Seems Florida has tried to get and has a shot at Kelly. I know some here don't want him anyway, but did we even call? Even if we had no real interest, don't you at least call? Maybe we did, I don't know. I'm not hearing anything solid about anyone, except Gruden and the only thing solid in him is the theory. No need to tell me what you or anyone else thinks about that, I already know. Haha.

Gruden will be available 3 years after nfl firing. Please copy all your post and paste them when UT fires their next coach in 3 years and this merry go round goes for the 3rd strike and he's out. So I'm saying there's a chance just the next time.:good!:

Best way to get a Gruden is to not talk about him. He seems one of these guys that might do the unexpected but it has to be his idea. He wants the attention, or he wouldn't make random Tennessee or Crocky Top comments in interviews. If we ignore him, he might jump but too many fans and media will keep stirring up the silliness.
