Gruden was never coming, and if we dont get a coach like Mullen it will be much worse haha. You guys need a dose of reality. We will be finishing our worst season in history come Saturday and Currie will announce someone much worse than Mullen sometime after that.
I think we're basically saying the same thing.
There is a difference in supporting the hiring process and/or results (your definition of "support" above), and supporting the coach ("give anyone a chance" as you stated above).
Here is a thought. Im all in on Gruden being the next head coach. But as each day passes I have began to wonder . Do we want a coach that wants to be here or someone that has to be begged?

When has an AD ever come out and said who they aren't pursuing?
Let me first say I still believe Jon Gruden will be the next coach. There's reason to doubt that, and I've never claimed it as a 100% fact, but I trust where I've heard this.
Secondly, let me say that if it was not Gruden, I think Mullen is a solid hire. Not going to go through all the reasons why, but he can develop talent and if he surrounded himself with great recruiters, could be a great fit.
But lastly, I think there is VERY little chance Mullen leaves MSU for ANY job. He's comfortable there. The expectations are low. He's 1 year away from being their all-time winningest coach. 7-8 wins a year and they'll build a statue of him. He could stay there another 10 years at $5M or so. Would he really trade that to go somewhere he could make a little more, but also may only survive 3-5 years? Doubt it. He loves Starkville. His family loves Starkville. He's staying put.
No begging going on. Contract is in hand now and is what it is. Gruden just needs to put ink to paper to finalize. Currie being in the Bahamas with B Ball team tells me he's sure he has his guy now, otherwise the assistants AD or some other smuck would be there. Football runs the AD dept. and is the #1 priority.
Soon!
:loco:
I don't know...pick one.
"We have reached out to Jon Gruden, but the interest is not there."
"We understand the fans' desires and wishes, but we have to base the hire on the reality in which we find ourselves."
"We want a proven coach with college head coaching experience."
"We could not come to terms with Jon Gruden, we are moving on to plan B."
"Jon Gruden was never at the top of our list, but we gave him serious consideration."
"Our next hire will be someone with a proven college resume."
The fact that nothing has been said speaks volumes. Silence can be deafening.
It may not in reality end up being Gruden, but I WILL NOT support a Mullen, Norvell, Campbell, Frost, Durkin type hire.
I. Won't. Do. It.
Sorry, I will reignite the apathy that the dismissal of Butch quenched, and move forward being just a football fan. I love my University, this City, and this State, but will not support what I feel to be another half-effort at hiring a lackluster coach.
They need to understand, the longer it takes to make a move to return us to some type of prominence, the longer it will take to garner the type of fan-support they desire.
Sorry for the self-important, overwrought personal rant. This is the last I'll say on the matter....it doesn't have to be my choice of coach, but it better be worthy.
