Here is where I stand

No recruiting visits since the UGA. We only had 2 losses at this point.

Currie announces 340mil in reno and it is independently funded.

A ton of smoke and then radio silence since Thursday.

Currie kicking it the Bahamas?

Logically speaking

Gruden to the Hill

It may not in reality end up being Gruden, but I WILL NOT support a Mullen, Norvell, Campbell, Frost, Durkin type hire.

I. Won't. Do. It.

Sorry, I will reignite the apathy that the dismissal of Butch quenched, and move forward being just a football fan. I love my University, this City, and this State, but will not support what I feel to be another half-effort at hiring a lackluster coach.

They need to understand, the longer it takes to make a move to return us to some type of prominence, the longer it will take to garner the type of fan-support they desire.

Sorry for the self-important, overwrought personal rant. This is the last I'll say on the matter....it doesn't have to be my choice of coach, but it better be worthy.

Agree 100%. No more money from me. And trips and money that goes for hotel, tix, and other expenses will now be to the barn for my wife's team. Will still root for my Vols, but tailgating and money will be for her team

Gruden to UT would be so much fun, but I think there are other very good candidates that are just as likely to succeed as Gruden. If Gruden comes out and says no this, it doesn't spell the end. A good hire will happen, and on the Third Saturday in October 2019 the Vols will initiate the decline of Nick Saban.

That's what we will most likely end up with. Poaching a coach from a P5 school is unrealistic in these days.

Everybody saying Gruden makes sense because he hasn’t denied it needs to realize he hasn’t denied any job, including the Tampa rumors.

Currie also may have a very good reason not to deny it besides it being a “smokescreen”.

Would love Gruden here, but I don’t see how anybody can accurately read what’s going on based on what has or hasn’t been officially released from the AD. JMO.

Why did he not deny it on M&M like he did in 2012 though?

If John Currie is using this as a smokescreen for another hire, then he is the dumbest sob on the planet IMO and wont be the AD here long. If his is ignorant about how passionately the majority of the fanbase wants Gruden then I question his ability to run this AD. JMO

Agree

But he cannot just pursue Gruden blindly because a portion of the fanbase wants it that way. I am of the opinion that Currie is a smart guy and whether he gets this right or not, he is doing things the way he thinks they need to be done. Which will either elevate him to royal status or make him the most hated man in the state.

I said this yesterday. He isn't dumb and the only reason he fired Butch before end of season is because of the fans being upset. He knows his tenure hangs on this hire and I don't think he would be stupid enough to try that one. (That makes ZERO sense)

Not self-important. The students here feel the exact same way. Can't wait to graduate and not waste my Saturdays anymore.

I have a feeling the idiot following him around and accosting him the other day, certainly reminded him of the passion/infatuation.

As idiotic as that was...

If anyone thinks that only Gruden can do the job, then those folks really need to wake up. There are other guys who can do the job. Whether they would take the job is the question. There's a long list of coaches who could.

That being said, UT needs the splash. We need the instant energy that comes with it. We need the name recognition that brings recruits. Gruden brings those things, but there are other names that would as well. Maybe not the names that we speculate.

Who else could unite the fan base and create the excitement needed to make a huge impact from day 1? There are 3 names: Gruden, Belichick, Saban. Two of those are impossible. No one else can create the buzz needed to make an immediate impact. Anyone else will be a downer. I supported Kiffen, Dooley and Butch 100%. Defended them until they were indefensible. I'm done being supportive of non-elite coaching. And, I think I speak for a significant part of the fan base. I'll be very critical of any coach not named Gruden. Wish I had not been pushed to that reality, but it is what it is.

Who said he is pursuing him and who said he has to because that's what the fanbase wants. I am saying that he knows what the fanbase wants and he is not squashing it, so if he is using this as a smokescreen, he is pretty incompetent in doing so.

Boro, I may have missed it in the past, but outside of Gruden who would be your top three?

Not that my choices really matter, but I answered that question a page or two back.

I'm a nobody. A football fan. Who I'd like may not match with you, but is limited to people with experience and success worthy of this historic Blue Blood program.
