Lulz....people in here frown on coaches like Mullen, Brohm, and Norvell.....but bring up Cooter....and by God...what a great hire that would be!!
Gimme a break

I've felt this way sometimes. Most of the so-called "smoke" is coming from message boards and would-be twitter journalists. Not many - if any - mainstream journalists lending credence to Grumors. Meanwhile Currie is content to let them float out there. It's free misdirection while he looks at other candidates.

Right. It's all Currie's call. He loves subterfuge.

Yes. That would be prudent. But Currie does what he wants. He bucked advice on when to fire CBJ, too. Currie is going to do this his way. He said he isn't going to comment on the search until a new coach is hired... and that's exactly what he's doing.

Then when he uses the smoke around Gruden to hire another coach then he'll catch the wrath for it. If it truly is a white whale then all will be forgiven. But, if he marches another experiment out there then he'll lose the fan base. UT fans I don't think are going to give another up-and-comer a fair shot. Right or wrong.

Bass would be a great coordinator. He'd scrap the lineup between plays because something happened he didn't like.

Catbone would never be able to make a call

“No, that will never work. No way this play works. Can’t call that play, it doesn’t have a chance”

Hahaha true. And D4H would tell a guy to forgo his senior cause he's gonna be a #1 draft pick....only for him to fall to the 5th round.

Places that rank NFL offensive lines, like Pro Football Focus, typically have the Lions near the bottom. Despite that they are 6th in the NFL in scoring offense.

He usually shows up on lists like this for coordinators that will be NFL head coaches soon.

Confidence waning... Please save me.

Right now I'm debating how much I like a foundation of:

HC: Chad Morris
OC: one of Clemson's co-OC's
DC: Kevin Steele

Currie walked around ZZ last night in the middle of a bunch of drunk Vol fans. Just walked thru it all unphased carrying his coffee with some moron screaming at him “are you gonna hire Gruden Currie?!?”

He’s either crazy/stupid or he does not give a crap about what we think.

He’s not stupid so my guess is he doesn’t feel the external stuff. This hire is gonna define his era here. He knows that.

Clock started ticking for Currie after the Georgia game. I will remain forever convinced if he’d fired Butch then and replaced him with Hoke, we’d be bowling. But we can’t change the past and making the right coaching hire is the most important decision at this point. And who knows - showing Butch some compassion may help Currie make a good hire...
But then we'd be stuck with Hoke.

Whomever he hires it better be successful. His career is riding on it. If he bucks the boosters and goes his own way like Hart did, he won't last past year three if the program has not made significant strides.

The search is already over. That’s the only thing that makes sense. We just have to wait for the announcement that’s clearly on a specific timeline.

Didn't Hank say that Currie talked to Aranda a long time last night?

People throw out other DC's, but I think Shoop can be good, if we had an offense to help him. We don't know what went on with Butch and last night, they played really hard, but you had Calloway dropping the ball on the 5 yard line last night due to 3000 gallons of water falling on his face. Not much wiggle room.

Not sure if you’ve weighed in or not but I think someone posted about two coaches that won’t even talk due to the Grumors meaning him or bust, have you heard anything pertaining to that?

There have been coaches whose reps have said they're not interested in the job. And there is concern that the Grumors are driving the market up. The perception is that UT is going to pay top dollar for a coach, and agents are going to leverage some of this false info for favorable terms. It's setting up to be a more challenging search than anticipated.

He's a supremely confident guy. Whether that confidence is warranted is a different question - but he absolutely believes he'll find the next great coach. Doesn't matter if it's Gruden or Bobo.

Why is that the only thing that makes sense? I'm not saying it's not Gruden, but what part of the timeline makes you believe it's done?
