I've thought about this too. LWS said if Currie was hired earlier then he would have got rid of Butch after Vandy.

This is the mentality I don't get. If we want to be truly competitive in the SEC we MUST spend the money on a price coach who can consistently recruit top 5 teams. Top 5. Not top 5 in the SEC. A proven coach knows how to recruit talent and develope that talent. Norvell isn't going to come in and recruit a top 5 national class let alone a top 5 sec class. Neither is Brohm and although I really like Mullen I have concerns about his ability to do it consistently.

If I'm Currie I give Gruden until noon tomorrow and then I take all that money and make Paterson tell is no.

Come on man. Like Mullen or not there’s no denying he’s better than butch. At least norvell has a QB track record.

We don't want someone who is simply better than Butch (by the way that shouldn't be hard since Butch Jones was terrible).

We want a GREAT head coach that can lead us to championships.

Dan Mullen isn't that coach.

If you want a consistent 8-4, 9-3, with the occasional 10-2 season every 5-7 years then Mullen is your coach. I personally have higher expectations. I'll move on and give UT football the same level of importance that the UT AD does.

We have top five revenues
We have the best fan base in college football
We have a great university
We have a great region for which to reside

Why must we be looking at experimental hires?

My theory go back to the loyal fans. They know they can serve up dog crap and tell the fans it's prime steak and the fans will continue to lap it up like a contestant on survivor. Not me, not again. Call me when you get a winner very there.

We also have a top 5 instate recruiting base now.

No excuse for Tennessee to not be a perennial national title contender.

I will say for the 5th time- No way Currie gets a lower tier guy at this point with him saying he's swinging for fences and has a mint to spend.
I am serious when I say if he brings in a dud after all of this, Volnation will literally riot, he will get roasted, He will show everyone what a clown of a AD he is, and this program will officially implode.
Something good HAS to come from all of this.

Lol it's not that simple. Curry isn't walking around carrying a suitcase full of cash. The boosters have to be willing to pony up for Patterson and they wouldn't pay near as much as they are offering Gruden. I would just hope they offer enough for him to say yes.
